An update from Dr. Brian Harris: August 5, 2020

August 4 Special Board of Education meeting

Dear Barrington 220 community,

At a special Board of Education meeting on August 4, I shared details about the district’s decision to start the 2020-21 school year with Distance Learning. You can watch the entire presentation, which outlines the reasons behind this decision, by clicking the video link above. As of today, the district plans to remain in Distance Learning mode until at least Friday, October 16. Of course, as we have all learned over the past several months, things can change very quickly. We will continuously re-evaluate the situation and communicate any changes which may occur.

We know there is a lot of information to digest and there are many questions. We have put together a list of frequently asked questions, which you can view by clicking the link below.

Virtual Town Hall Q&A

The district leadership team is also holding a virtual town hall on Thursday, August 6 from 6:30pm-8:30pm to answer questions. During the first half hour of the zoom meeting, I will share details in a presentation. During the remainder of the meeting community members will be able to ask questions and receive answers in real time from myself, principals and several other district administrators.

Closing Thoughts

I am beginning my 34th year in public education and the first day of school is always my favorite day of the year. This year will be very different, however we want all students and parents to know our staff will be ready to deliver Distance Learning instruction that is far superior to what occurred this past spring.

Over the summer, many of our teachers engaged in professional development that was designed to improve virtual instruction. In addition, during the teacher institute days prior to the beginning of the school year, all teachers will be participating in Distance Learning professional development.

I want to emphasize that if you have questions, please reach out to your building principals, teachers, or the district office, instead of relying on information from other sources such as social media. School districts nationwide are being challenged through this pandemic and I know that if we work together Barrington 220 can be a leader in these uncertain times.
