Discipline Referral's Male/Female
PBIS Updates
In the 2019-2020 school year we will reduce our male office referrals from 81.6% to 78% or less. We noticed a dis-proportionality between male and female referrals so we want to work with our males to develop appropriate social skills and conflict resolution. Some of our ideas for interventions are: Boys2Men Club (similar to Girls on the Run) , Male Mentors, Boys only assemblies on manners and conflict resolution, and school leadership roles for males. We will spend first semester planning and hope to implement these items by second semester.
We also really enhanced and cleaned up our school-wide incentive program and cleaned up the language on discipline levels. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to present it all on Wednesday. I'll be sure to provide more information regarding the discipline forms.
Things to Know
Social Committee: We ask that certified staff turn in $20 each semester, or $40 total, to Mrs. Gilkerson for our support fund. Classified, we ask that you contribut $20 total for the year. By paying the money you get to wear jeans on Fridays and the money goes towards supporting our staff and students during emergencies, deaths, celebrations, etc.
We do this by the honor system so I ask that you make your contribution if you want to join us on Jeans FRIDAYS.
If we run short on funds (as we have in the past), we will do a jeans week fundraiser.

Coaches Corner
I'm so happy to hear that most, if not all of us, are up-to-date on our GR assessments. Remember to use your IAs for 30 minutes to complete your running records. The updated Word Knowledge Inventory was put in your mailboxes this week. Only do the words that are different, NOT the whole assessment. I will be walking you through how to create your class and enter in your data next week. We will also have collaboration time to work on putting in our data. It is super simple and I am available to help answer questions and assist as needed!
Upcoming dates: Post-Assessment given by Aug. 30th
Data Entered by Sept. 3rd
Data Discussed on Sept. 4th
Daily 5 up and running by Aug. 30th
GR data entered into Scholastic by Sept. 6th
1st GR table up and running by Sept. 9th
All 3 GR tables up and running by Sept. 16th
Students in K-2 will complete a dyslexia screener in the near future. I will be sharing more about this with you. I will be training IAs on how to perform this assessment, so I can take this off of your plate. Brook and I will be entering in the data for you.
The Million Minute Challenge Launch is coming up! I will present information on this during our Family Meetings next week.

Counselor Corner
I am feeling like I have such a better understanding and sense of direction after the CD team met this week. I hope you feel encouraged and maybe a little calmer about where we are with CD. Take a deep breath and remember you are all doing amazing things!
Here are a couple things I wanted to update you on regarding CD:
- I realized I was adding resources to a different google folder, but now I have added everything to the Acton Conscious Discipline Files linked below.
- I bought the album "It Starts in the Heart" that has the song "Get Ready" we did on the news last week. All of the songs are in the Brain Smart Start Folder and I also have the lyrics in that folder.
Just to be on your radar:
- The week of August 26th I will be doing my library lesson on bullying for the whole school. My goal is to make the focus a little more positive and encourage students to be kind and be up-standers.
- To help we are going to be making that week Friendship Week. Each day will be a color day. I will give you more information and have flyers ready to go home early next week.
Have a restful weekend!

FTCSC Hedgehog Focus
The Hedgehog Concept is based on an ancient Greek parable that states, "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." ... Hedgehogs, however, simplify the world and focus on a single, overarching vision, which they then achieve.
