MESSAGE FROM MRS. ROBERTSON
It's hard to believe that we are almost two thirds of the way through the school year! It is this time of year in which CMES begins to plan for the next school year, and with that comes, enrollment projects and staffing allocations. At the most recent PTA meeting, it was shared that our enrollment is projected to be 499 students. This number is a reduction from our current enrollment. As a result, CMES staffing will be reduced by two classroom teachers for the 2022-2023 school year. In addition, teacher assignments may be adjusted in order to meet the needs of students. We ask for your support and understanding as we make these difficult decisions.
At the beginning of fourth term, we will once again give families and opportunity to complete a Google Form with information related to consideration for student placements for the up and coming school year. Be on the look out for the form in early April.
Have a wonderful week and we will hope to see everyone tomorrow morning!

As you may be aware, the Frederick County Public Schools has initiated its search for a new Superintendent. To counsel us through this important process, we have retained the services of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, a consulting firm that specializes in assisting Boards with the consideration of candidates for Superintendent.
A key step in this process is to identify the characteristics we will be seeking in our new Superintendent. We would greatly appreciate your input and assistance with this important task. We, therefore, invite you to participate in this process by:

Mask Update
On Friday, Feb. 25, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lifted the requirement that people wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs. This CDC change aligns with updated guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask wearing in K-12 and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 Community Level.
The entire updated masking statement from the CDC can be found here: https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/masks/mask-travel-guidance.html.
On Wednesday, Feb. 22, the Board of Education of Frederick County approved a motion making face coverings encouraged but no longer required inside school buildings.
Inclusive Pre-k Program
The Inclusion Pre-K Program is funded via the Special Education Department and is separate from the Traditional Pre-K Program offered by the Early Childhood Office.
The Inclusion Pre-K Program is designed to meet the needs of students with specialized instructional requirements as outlined via their Individual Education Program (IEP) as determined via the IEP/Child Find process. The Inclusion Pre-K program delivers the general education curriculum as based on FCPS curricula/ College and Career Readiness Standards with an emphasis on social and communication-based skills.
Those applying for the Inclusion Pre-K Peer Lottery are intended to be a social and communication role-model. The Inclusion Pre-K Peer Lottery is a non-entitlement program meaning that all students have equal opportunity for selection in a random lottery-based process. Inclusion Pre-K Peer seats are available for 3 and 4-year old students.
Students must be 3 or 4 by September 1st. There are no exceptions to this rule. Applying for a student to participate as a peer role model in this program does not guarantee enrollment. Parents must provide they own transportation to and from school.
The lottery for the coming year opens on February 15th. All selected families will be notified of selection by May 31st.
Visit https://www.fcps.org/academics/prekindergarten for more information and for the link to the application.
Please feel free to contact Lauren Perry or Constance Turney at Lauren.perry@fcps.org or Constance.Turney@fcps.org with any additional questions.
Communicating Absences
Communication is Key
Please provide a note if your child is not able to attend school due to illness. E-mail your student’s teacher as well as the Carroll Manor Attendance email address cmes.attendance@fcps.org so we can keep track of student absences.
