Principal Message
I hope this message finds you well! We did it! The first marking period ends today. First marking period report cards will be posted to the Genesis Parent Portal on Thursday, November 18th after 3:45pm.
Beginning on Wednesday, November 17th through Tuesday, November 23rd (no conferences Monday, November 22nd), Hazelwood School will be hosting Parent/Teacher Conferences. Middlesex Public Schools will have an early dismissal the days we have parent / teacher conferences.
This is a great opportunity to visit our school, your child’s classroom, and visit with your child’s teacher to discuss his/her academic progress. Families may also choose the virtual option. Your attendance is very important.
Teachers will share with you samples of your child’s work, observations in the classroom, and goals for future learning. Please feel free to ask questions, take notes, and share with the teacher what you see in regards to your child’s academic performance. Your partnership with the teacher is very important.
I kindly remind you that teachers schedules are very tight during conferences. Please be on time and maximize the time of the conference. If additional time is needed to discuss, please schedule at that time an additional meeting with the teacher. It is important to value everyone’s time. If you should have a problem scheduling your conference, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or myself. Thank you in advance.
To assist in preparing for the conference, please take a few minutes to review this great article by the National Education Association. We look forward to seeing you soon!
This week Hazelwood School saluted our veterans by participating in “Operation Gratitude”. Students found their creative side and created cards to be sent to our troops that are deployed, our veterans, and our wounded heroes! For more information about how Hazelwood School celebrated our veterans check out Mrs. Gehrke’s Library Blog!
Lastly, I would like to discuss student arrival. Recently more families have been using the drop off car line. We kindly remind families that children should get out of the car on the sidewalk side and there should be no stopping and standing. If you wish to watch your child enter the building after dropping them off, please pull forward and turn onto Dorn Avenue. It is strongly recommended that families do not park / stand on Ambrose Ave. (facing Hazelwood Ave.) and have their child cross the street and cut through the car line to the sidewalk. Staff and I have witnessed close calls before where drivers have had to slam on their breaks. We do not want a child to get hit. Let’s please all work together to ensure a safe arrival for all!
