DAVIES HIGH SCHOOL
EAGLES REPORT - MAY 2023
Honor – Integrity – Pursuit of Excellence
GREETINGS, EAGLES!
I will admit, it is CrAzY to think that I am drafting the final newsletter for the 2022-23 school year. Even crazier than the Winter we all experienced this year and the Spring we currently are experiencing. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was crafting our August newsletter’s opening page. Truth be told, we have just over four weeks to go until the doors close this school year. Many of our senior parents are putting the final touches on plans for graduation parties and our seniors themselves are finalizing their plans after high school for next fall. We have so much work yet to do in such a short period of time; yet as I reflect on the past eight months, our school has accomplished so much. There is no doubt in my mind that Davies High School is an Amazing place, because of our students, staff, and parents!
Even beyond our strong academic record at Davies High School, I need to draw attention to the volume of talent our students have. From their athleticism to their musical and theatrical talents, to the different leadership or community service roles our students have participated in. One does not have to look too far as you will always find our Davies kids’ names at the top of the list. Our school has enjoyed so much success this past school year. I could not be prouder to be serving as building Principal at our school. I would not hesitate for one second to match our students against any other in this great state and nation, knowing full well we would be represented very well.
Our students deserve our very best efforts, and we will continue to work to meeting their every need.
Some final dates to be aware of and include on your calendar as we come down the final stretch of the year are:
- May 1-12 AP Testing (see the schedule inside this newsletter)
- May 17 Academic Awards/Senior Scholarships Ceremony @ 7:30am – (by invitation only)
** Also, the Davies Day ChalkFest & Activity Day
- May 30 All on-line classes/credits need to be finished for Seniors
- June 1 Last day of classes for students
- June 2 Graduation practice **Required for Seniors** - 8:30am @ Fargodome
- Seniors who will miss due to a school activity will be contacted for a make-up rehearsal earlier in the week
- June 4 Davies HS Graduation – 12pm NOON @ Fargodome
Please call the high school office @ 446-5600 with any of your questions/concerns or if we can assist you in any other way as it relates to your child’s involvement here at Davies High School. It is a constant goal of ours at Davies High School to develop strong partnerships with parents and/or guardians. The strength of our partnership is directly related to the ability we have to influence our young people today. Your unconditional support, strong communication, and involvement in our school has assisted us in accomplishing our mission of: Honor, Integrity, and the Pursuit of Excellence.
We hope to build upon our existing relationship as we move forward into the coming school years with your child.
I trust that each and every one of you will have a strong finish to our school year and an even better summer!
Warm regards,
Troy A. Cody

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Fargo, ND—Members of the Fargo Davies High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the 56th annual North Dakota FBLA State Leadership Conference April 2 – 3, 2023. Over 60 FBLA chapters from across the state participated in this conference, connecting approximately 1,150 middle and high school students to test business skills against their peers from around the state.
The most exciting aspect of the conference is the competitive events program. Students have the opportunity to test the business skills they’ve learned in the classroom in a variety of individual, team, and chapter events. Students can enter events such as accounting, computer applications, public speaking, job interview, website design, or business ethics. The culmination of the competitive events program is the awards ceremony where winners are recognized for their accomplishments, and we find out who will represent North Dakota at the National Leadership Conference this summer. In addition to the competitive events program, students had the opportunity to attend workshops, vote for the 2023-24 state officer team, and network with members from around the state. This year, members also had the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker, Brooks Harper, with his keynote “Turning Learning Into Earning” showing students how academic success, relationships, leadership opportunities and digital citizenship impacts their college and career options and future earning potential.

Philanthropy & Youth (PaY)
The end of the PaY season went very well here at Davies. We went to complete our board presentations in late March, and received notification that all of our organizations that we chose would receive grants. Our committees chose to grant money to the following organizations: Anne Carlsen Center, Fraser, Haley’s Hope, HERO, Red River Children’s Advocacy Center, River Keepers, and the Village. A total of $5,000 will be split between those varying organizations for projects connected to “sustainability”, this year’s key theme.
Other exciting news for our group was that 2 of our members will receive scholarships from the Barry Foundation. Seniors, Nora Daub and Peyton Bradley, both applied, interviewed and were granted scholarships through the organization. We are so proud of both of these young ladies and their efforts in PaY over the course of the last few years.
We have our upcoming PaY Celebration on May 9th and end of the year projects that will close out a wonderful PaY year for us. We look forward to next year and people joining our fabulous group of students, making a difference to our community.

LAST DAY OF CLASSES - LOCKERS MUST BE EMPTIED
End of Year Check-In
We want to remind everyone that ALL MATERIALS ARE DUE BY THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. This includes PLDs, PLD chargers, textbooks, as well as library books and equipment checked out. Students will be charged for any unreturned devices and materials.
Students can see what they have checked out by going to the card catalog and signing in. From there click the “My Info” on the blue ribbon. This is also where you can see if there are any fines on your account. These charges could be from PLD repairs, lost or damaged books, lost PLD charger, etc.
This is especially important for Seniors, as all materials must be turned in or paid for in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. If in doubt, please have your student stop by the library or talk to their teacher.
AP TESTING
Below is a list of each exam date and location. Exams will be administered in either H101 or H201. Exam locations and room assignments are posted outside of Student Services. Please arrive approximately 10 minutes prior to your exam start time. If it’s another location or you are testing late due to overlapping exams, Mrs. Brown will contact you via email with that information.
NURSES CORNER - IMMUNIZATION UPDATE: GRADES 11 AND 12
For the school year 2023-2024, a second dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) is required for students entering eleventh or twelfth grade. This rule went into effect for the school year 2018-2019. This means your student will need proof of two doses of MCV4 before returning to school in the fall if they have already turned 16.
Ideally, children should receive one dose of MCV4 when they are eleven to twelve years old and a booster dose on or after their sixteenth birthday. Please schedule with your child’s health care provider or your local public health. Please have your child receive this booster prior to the start of the school year or shortly after their 16th birthday. If your child received their booster dose prior to their 16th birthday, they would need to receive another booster dose after their 16th birthday. Also, remember to bring in proof of the immunization documentation to the school.
If you have any questions, please give me a call at 701-446-5621

REOCCURING INFORMATION
STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Secure Entrances
Effective April 10, all Fargo high schools will have secure entrances during school hours.
What does this mean?
After the start of the school day, all entrances at our school will be locked. Students and visitors needing entry into the building after the start of school will need to use the buzzer system at the door to be let into the building.
Visitors will need to state the purpose for their visit to the building. Once allowed into the building, students can proceed to class and visitors will need to sign in via the visitor management system at the security kiosk and receive a visitor’s badge.
Why is this occurring?
This security measure is being enacted to increase our school’s overall safety. Secure entrances are already in place at all elementary and middle schools in Fargo. This step brings all schools to the same procedures for entrance during school hours.
LOCKERS
Lockers are equipped with a combination padlock loaned by the school. Lockers should be kept locked and combinations not shared with other students. Lost or stolen locks will be paid for by the student. The charge for a lost lock is $5.00. Students are responsible for books and personal possessions at all times. STUDENTS ARE ADVISED TO LEAVE VALUABLES AT HOME. Any graffiti appearing on the outside or inside of the locker is considered vandalism and will be the responsibility of the student. School administrators reserve the right to search lockers, but only when it is reasonable to suspect that the locker contains items or articles which may constitute a hazard or contains property that does not belong to the student.
Gym lockers and locks are available to students enrolled in physical education classes. All items placed in the locker room during class must be placed in a locked locker to ensure items are not stolen. Students must refrain from placing personal items of value in gym lockers. The school will NOT be responsible for the loss of unsecured items. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all personal items are properly secured when left in the locker room areas. Lost locks are again the responsibility of the student and a $5 fee will be assessed for a lost lock.
YEARBOOKs
2021-2022
The 2021-2022 yearbooks were distributed during orientation. Students must have paid for a yearbook prior to the end of this past school year. Cost is $60 and must be paid via cash or check only.
2022-2023
Students can purchase a copy of the 2022-2023 yearbook for the price of $50 until December 1, 2022. After that date the cost for a yearbook will increase to $60. These can be purchased through SchoolPay, stopping into the main office, or calling the main office at 701-446-5600.

FPS DELAYED BUS ROUTE PLAN 2022-23
Last winter, Fargo Public Schools canceled several bus routes due to a shortage of bus drivers. This school year, to reduce bus route cancellations and to still provide transportation to school, FPS will run affected bus routes on a one-hour delay. School buildings will still start at their normal time; families are encouraged to transport their students on time, if possible. FPS realizes that not all families can transport their students if their bus route is canceled; instead, we will offer a one-hour delayed route. Affected students will not be counted tardy due to the delay. Please note that students will still receive their specialized instruction as indicated in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
If a driver shortage occurs, Valley Bus will notify affected riders of select routes by a voice call, email and/or text message to the contact information on file with the school. The message will instruct the rider that their original route pick-up time will run one hour late. An example would be if a student were to be picked up at 7:55 a.m. at 12th Ave. South and 7th Street, the new time would be 8:55 a.m.
Parents can check their child’s normal pick-up time using the “Bus Route by Address” option on the FPS Transportation website. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date in PowerSchool.
