Cortéz imprisoned some of Pineda's men because he thought of Álvarez de Pineda as a rival. He might have lead to the first contact between Europeans and American Indians in what is now Texas.

Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca

Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca was the first European to explore Texas. He was also a slave and survived by killing or trading. Also lived along the Karankawas.

Francisco Vázquez de Coronado

Francisco Vázquez de Coronado went to Quieria with 1,000 men, found nothing and went to another place. He also left Spain knowing there was nothing.

René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle (Robert de La Salle)

He explored the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. He was planning on going to Florida, but ended up in Texas.
