Books! Gadgets! Fun!

October!

October is another busy month in the Learning Commons! We have kicked off Read Your Way to the Big Game; 5th graders are making games for our NPES Cardboard Challenge Fair; several classes are gearing up to participate in the Global Read Aloud; Star Wars READS Day is coming soon and so much MORE! As classes come in to the Learning Commons, we are sharing information about all of these activities and events with students and teachers.

Kindergarten has been reading books about Fall and everyone else is enjoying checking out great books! If you have a particular lesson or need in mind, please let us know! We are here to help!

Happy Fall!

Star Wars READS Day!

Who doesn't love Star Wars?! Join NPES, GPS, WKES, LES, and CSES on October 10 at Learning Express in Lexington for story time, snacks, costumes, and more! The first 5 Lions who come will get a FREE Star Wars READS t-shirt! We will be there 2pm - 4pm...hope to see you there!

iPads! Google!

Thank you for your patience as we figure out our iPads and Google Docs! Grade level sets and classroom iPads should be ready SOON! We have 74 iPads in the Learning Commons available for checkout. All classroom teachers should have access to the iPad calendar - if you do not, please let us know! 2nd - 5th grade classes have been working with Ms. Burkett to teach students how to sign in and access documents in Google. Don't forget, this is how students will save and share work now - everyone is doing a GREAT job! This is an exciting year of learning and growth with the iPads and Google! Please let us know how we can help you!

Read Your Way to the Big Game!

We have kicked off the 1st Annual READ YOUR WAY TO THE BIG GAME READING CONTEST. This contest is sponsored by the Educational Oversight Committee and is a fun way to get students excited about reading! A parent letter with reading log was put in boxes this week. We have been telling students about the program in the library. Students read 6 books, write down the titles and author on the reading log, and turn in the reading log for a chance to win tickets to the Palmetto Bowl! All reading logs are due NOVEMBER 11!
