Important Safety Changes at Cypress

Beginning Tuesday, September 5th if you walk your child into the school building in the morning, you will be required to enter through the front office and obtain a visitor's badge. This new process is being implemented district-wide to further ensure that we know who is in our buildings at all times. For those of you that bring your children daily, we are asking that you complete the pre-registration form by clicking on this link, so that we can have your visitor badge pre-printed and waiting for you each day. If you have completed this step, you will only need to sign in and out when you obtain your badge versus waiting in line to have one printed each morning. If you occasionally walk your child into school, you will need to stop by the front office to obtain a visitor's badge.

Thank you in advance for helping us keep our children safe! I wholeheartedly appreciate your support. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached at 512-570-5410.

Grandparent's Lunch

Grandparents Lunch will be held on Friday, September 8th in the cafeteria during your child's normal lunch time (see below). We love seeing all the grandparents at this event the children always have fun spending time with them at school. Your child has or will be making a special treat for them in Art.

If any attendees would like to skip the line to check-in at the office, you can pre-register, by clicking on this link and providing the requested information. Pre-registering saves time, frustration and is highly recommend. We suggest arriving 15-20 minutes early to locate parking and get in the building.

Upcoming Fire Drill

This next week, we will be having our first fire drill of the year. We are asking that you join us in discussing this with your child, so they know what to expect. We do not normally announce drills, but typically do for the first one so that the children will know what it sounds like and will be able to focus on what they need to learn instead of being scared.

We conduct at least one fire drill every month. In addition, we practice lock down and inclement weather drills multiple times throughout the year.

Parent Nights

Parent Nights are a great opportunity for parents to learn more about their child's teacher, their daily schedule, what they will be learning and doing this year, classroom expectations, etc. All Parent Nights are held from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. on different evenings, so that you you have an opportunity to attend each one if you have multiple children. Leader In Me

This is our 4th year as a Leader In Me campus, and we are so excited to continue teaching our children to learn, live, and lead with the 7 Habits! For the month of September, we will be focusing on reviewing all 7 of the habits, and then starting in October, we will narrow our focus to one habit per month.

We are often asked how parents can support the school’s leadership initiative. The very best way is to use the 7 Habits language at home. As the school year unfolds, the children are learning the language and meaning of the 7 Habits. By hearing the same language at home and at school, you send the children a strong message of what you believe is important and that we are all on the same team—the team that wants to help them succeed. We will also send out regular information with ideas of how to reinforce the habits at home. When parents and schools support one another, the sky is the limit!

Below is a summary of each of the habits:

  • Habit 1: Be Proactive (You’re in Charge)
  • Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind (Have a Plan)
  • Habit 3: Put First Things First (Work First, Then Play)
  • Habit 4: Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win)
  • Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood ( Listen Before You Talk)
  • Habit 6: Synergize (Together Is Better)
  • Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw (Balance Feels Best)
