Weekly Focus
Language Arts:
This week our class will be focusing on the tools people use every day to help them work, play, cook, and do their chores. Children will also be reading about tools such as utensils to eat, a calculator to add, and a shovel to dig holes.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: tool, discover Invite your child to hunt for different kinds of tools and tell what each one is used for. Make a list of the tools and read it together when you’re done.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Word: a Write simple sentences and leave a blank in each sentence to represent the word a. Have your child write the word a in the blanks. Then read each sentence together.
Category Words: colors Draw simple pictures of tools on paper. Have your child color each tool.
Phonics: p Invite your child to hunt for household objects that begin or end with the letter p. Write each word on a sticky note and have your child circle the p.
Comprehension: key details
Read the passage about tools, then have your child point to a tool and tell a detail about how to use it. Have your student act out how to use each tool.
Math: Module 1Topic F
Science:
We will be learning all about pumpkins to get ready for our field trip on Wednesday. We will discuss their life cycle, what pumpkins are used for, etc. We will be reading the informational and literature texts below.
Art:
We will be creating lots of crafts about pumpkins for the next couple of weeks.

- 2020-2021 Open Enrollment: Do you know someone who wants to be a Matey? Open enrollment for the 2020-21 school year is Tuesday October 15 - Friday November 15 for all Kindergarten through 9th grade students. Applications will be available in the front office and on our website. (https://natomasunified.org/np3e/enrollment/) Please note: Current students do not need to fill out an application.
- Fundraising Committee Meeting: Our next Fundraising Committee Meeting is on Monday, October 14 at 1:30 PM in the Cafeteria. Please join us to help decide which fundraisers would be the best fit for our school community.
- NP3 Elementary After School Enrichment Classes start this week! If you signed up for Tennis, Pokemon Club or Crochet, please plan on attending classes this week! If you would still like to sign up, please visit https://natomasunified.org/content/uploads/sites/24/2019/09/Enrichment-Registration-Form.pdf to fill out the enrichment form. All forms can be returned to the front office.
- Movie Night is this Friday! Please join us for our first movie night of the year. We will be watching "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" on Friday, October 18th in the gym. Doors open at 5:30 PM and movie starts at 6:00 PM. There will be pizza, snacks and drinks for sale!
- Runnin' for Rhett: The Runnin' for Rhett program will be offered this Fall to 3rd - 5th graders. The program is an after school activity and is six weeks long with the culminating MaraFUNthon in downtown Sacramento. The program is every Tuesday and Friday from 3-4:00 at NP3E. The first practice is Tuesday, October 22nd and the final practice is Friday, December 6th. The MaraFUNthon is the next day, the 7th. Permission slips will be available soon. Please contact Mr. Jones if you are interested.
