Monday Morning Message
Week of April 29, 2019
The Week Ahead
This morning brought some troubling news from the Quail Run Apartment community (https://www.wthr.com/article/police-investigate-mans-body-found-near-zionsville-town-hall). While the deceased does not have a direct connection to our Eagle families that we know of at this time, there will most certainly be an awareness of the incident by many of our young children. This is an opportunity to think about what measures we have in place for students who want to process the thoughts on their mind, yet these conversations might not be appropriate for whole class discussion.
Some of you have quick check-ins with students at the door before they enter the classroom, others have opportunities for students to share in writing, or it could be you specifically making a point to spend a moment with the students that you know of who live in the apartment community. I am not suggesting that you bring up the topic, but we do want to make sure that the environment we create/have created provides for a culture of safety, security, and trust when students need to process heavy topics.
I know I am preaching to the choir as you all are already pros! However, please don't hesitate to reach out to Diane or me if you need a hand.
- Week 2 of ILEARN is upon us. Please help remind students to be respectful with voice levels as they travel the halls each day.
- GROW Awards: We will be awarding our special Eagle GROW awards this year at the end of the year award ceremony on Tuesday, May 28. Please think about nominating a student in your classroom who has shown growth in friendship and citizenship and exemplifies the characteristics of an outstanding Eagle student. This should be a student who works hard academically, is a good friend to all and is able to see other students who are struggling and show them kindness. Related Arts, Special Education and others may nominate as well. Please complete this Form by Friday, May 17.
