The Dragon Blast
December 2019 - New Palestine Music & Performing Arts!
What is the Dragon Blast??
This will not be your typical boring newsletter. I will do my best to inject some humor in each topic, so be sure to read to the end. I'd also suggest printing off a copy for each of your bathrooms and to leave around the office... There's good stuff in here!
The Dragon Blast will be created/sent once a month.
It is for the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, third cousins, and even literate pets.
If you'd like for your student to receive the newsletter, parents are welcome to sign them up.
What to expect:
- Important dates for each of the three schools. (Intermediate, Jr High, High School)
- Highlights from recent events around the music community.
- Links to calendars, fundraisers and other important items.
- We will also have staff, parent, and student spotlights to share a little insider information about those that wish to participate.
Each month, the Dragon Blast should improve in content and quality. If you find an error, let me know.. but cut me some slack.. I'm new. :)
- Alan

RECENT EVENTS OR ACTIVITIES
Marching Dragons Season Wraps Up In Ohio
On a very chilly afternoon in November, the New Palestine Marching Dragons wrapped up their 2019 season with a final show at the Mid-States Band Competition in Kings Mills, OH. After consistently improving their craft all summer and fall, the competitive marching unit finished in 11th place among bands from as far away as Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
The hosting facility, Kings High School, took full advantage of being on their home turf, as they were recognized as the 2019 MSBA AAAA champions, an honor that our very own New Palestine unit earned in 2018.
Congratulations to the Marching and Glitter Dragons on a job well done. You have proven yourselves strong enough to endure THE CLIMB. Enjoy the much earned time off and get ready for 2020!
To the Class of 2020, your leadership has brought your activity to where it is today. Remember the lessons you've learned about hard work and sacrifice, as they can help you become great at whatever you choose to be!
Yes, Kings HS is next to Kings Island!
Perfect Practice Makes Perfect
The Heads of the Dragon!
On the heals of the 2019 marching season, 2020 is already starting to take shape with some exciting additions and improvements.

NEW DRUMLINE INSTRUMENTS
You've watched this scene before on the Hallmark Channel. Kids coming around the corner, still sleepy from the previous nights rest.. left utterly speechless at the bounty bestowed upon them by the caring adults in their life.
Well, that's (almost) exactly what happened to our kiddos, as the talented New Palestine percussionists received a MAJOR upgrade. A brand new set of Pearl snare drums, bass drums, and tenors were all set up and glowing in the light of the auditorium. This equipment will provide many MANY years of service to our current and upcoming percussionists. (this really is a big deal!) :)
A huge thank you goes out to all our current and former students, parents, and booster board members who’ve helped us raise and save the money over the last three years to make this purchase! These beauties will be used beginning this winter. Please come out and cheer on our competitive units when you can & take pride in the awesomeness of the new battery line!!
STAFF - STUDENT - PARENT SPOTLIGHT
Meet Alan A. - parent
Hi there. My name is Alan Ausbrooks. I am currently the NPJH/NPI Liaison for the New Palestine Band Boosters. The Dragon Blast was an idea.. so.. depending on if you enjoy it, or if you don't - you're welcome, or I'm sorry.
Since this is the first Dragon Blast, I might as well go first.
Who ARE you & what to you do?: Again, my name is Alan Ausbrooks. I am the General Manager at Access Mobility. We provide power scooters, lift chairs, stairway lifts and other helpful aids all over Indiana.
I have a Freshman daughter at NPHS that plays the French Horn and participates in the Marching Dragon Glitter Guard, as well as the Winter Guard.
What is your favorite movie?: Star Wars
How many times have you watched it?: Oh my... +45? lol
If you could be a super hero for a day, who would it be?: Superman.. Always wanted to fly.
Did you ever play an instrument? Yes I did! From middle school up through college, I played Trombone. Back in 2007, I was invited to perform with a DCA Mini Corps called Star United. That required me to learn to play the baritone. Still at it today!
Which do you do first.. vacuum or dust?: This seems like such a no-brainer to me. You dust first, then vacuum. You knock the dust off the 'stuff'... then you suck it up with the vacuum... right?
Hottest thing you've ever eaten?: My brother grew peppers a few years back. I can't remember what it was called, but I about went blind.
Which is better, Dogs or Cats: DOGS.. prove me wrong. ;)
