OHS STORM FORECAST

Owyhee High School: Must Read Info for OHS - 9/21/21

Big picture

Important Information from Principal Cliff Rice

Storm Families,

I just have a few helpful reminders and conversational points that could help us tremendously at OHS.

  • Each student should have their student ID with them every day. This gives them access to the building since the doors are locked and allows them to check out books and materials from the library.
  • Students are to wear a mask while in the classroom. I am very thankful for how well students have adapted over the last week!
  • If you have a question about your students attendance, please email their teacher first. They are the one that can confirm if they were in the classroom and can change it if there was a mistake made.
  • Vandalism to schools have been an issue across the country this last week. Please have a conversation with your child about the importance of taking care of our beautiful school. If they see someone vandalizing our school, please encourage them to report it to security or administration immediately.

Our students and staff have been amazing and working hard to build a positive culture at our school during a tough time. We will continue to build on this as the year goes on! Thank you to all of the parents who have been very complimentary of the work that is being done by our staff. We cannot express to you enough how far your kind words go!

Have a great week! Go Storm!

Mr. Rice, Principal

Fall Concurrent Credit courses & Fast Forward funding - Deadline September 24th!

Many concurrent credit courses are registering this fall. For a complete list of courses, as well as information about college registration and accessing Fast Forward funding, click HERE.

If you did not receive a registration confirmation email from the college and want to verify your student's registration, ask your student to show you the confirmation email they received (that means they didn't share your email when they registered) or contact the classroom teacher.

To verify that Fast Forward funding was secured, ask your student to access their Advanced Opportunities account and click on "course submissions." You should see the course listed and approval from the school. If the course isn't approved, or have other Fast Forward questions, contact Lynn Scheppers at scheppers.lynn@westada.org.

Please also read important information found HERE regarding risk of losing Fast Forward funding if a grade is not earned in a concurrent credit course.

Optional Device Protection Plan

West Ada School District offers optional device protection to families to cover the accidental breakage or damage that might occur to a child’s iPad or laptop. This voluntary protection plan is available for $25 per device and covers repairs or replacement due to accidental damage from drops, spills, vandalism, loss, theft, and incidental damage to another student’s device. Device protection does not cover intentional damage to a device, or damaged or lost accessories such as district provided cases, chargers, pens, or hotspots. Please see the Parent Student Device Handbook or Optional Device Protection Plan in the Student Handbooks for detailed information on the District’s Optional Device Protection Plan.

The optional device protection plan enrollment period is August 16-October 31. Families may sign up and pay for optional device protection through the Payment Portal located in PowerSchool.

Families are responsible for the repair or replacement of devices which are damaged, lost, or stolen outside acceptable use guidelines published in student handbooks. Device protection is a voluntary, non-refundable, yearly cost for each device. Families may be able to add devices to their homeowner’s or renters’ insurance plan and may consider these alternatives prior to purchasing optional device protection.
