Novel Reading in Groups
K-12 (Differentiation required)
Big Idea
Directions
2. Student will be creating group posters based on their reading.
3. Students are put into groups - teacher decides the best grouping, but I have attached some grouping ideas.
4. Each group is given a small section of the novel to read - 10 pages is a good amount. The pages should be spread out through the novel.
5. After someone reads aloud to the entire group, students decide on a symbol that would work for that section of the novel.
6. On a poster a group member draws the symbol.
7. On the same poster a line or two of text from that section of the novel that best represents that section of the novel is written in quotes with a page number.
8. The group also writes a poem to summarize this section of the novel and writes the poem on the poster.
9. When posters are complete students share their findings with the class. Each student in the group has to explain or read something on the poster to meet part of the oral expression standard for English Language Arts.
10. When all the posters are complete, create a wall with an overall heading to represent the novel.
