Everything You Need to Know to Prepare for the School Year
I am Theresa Morateck, Executive Director of Teaching, Learning & Equity, and current Superintendent Designee. I wanted to reach out and share with you this comprehensive back to school newsletter.
It's hard to believe that the 2022-2023 school year will begin in five weeks. We look forward to seeing our students on Thursday, September 1. School start times are highlighted in this newsletter, along with school contact information.
In addition to school start times and school contact information, we are sharing links and information about our school year calendar, school supply lists, back to school nights, and updates from our school health office, technology, volunteer, and transportation departments. We have lots of great information to keep you informed and up-to-date. We want to ensure that each and every student and family have a successful start to this school year.

Interim Superintendent Search: Update from the Board of Education
On Tuesday, July 19, the School District of Beloit Board of Education met to discuss candidates for the position of interim superintendent. The person selected for this position will help the Board of Education by managing the day-to-day operations of our District through the remaining summer months, planning and executing back to school efforts for our students and staff, working with our current executive administrative team, and advancing other strategic priorities as outlined by the Board of Education.
With a consensus of the entire Board, the person selected for the interim position will not be chosen to serve as the superintendent as a result of the superintendent search process conducted by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards. The Board’s preference is that this person’s focus is on helping lead the District and meet identified strategic priorities for the benefit of our students and staff during this time.
With a thorough and thoughtful process, the Board of Education anticipates having an interim superintendent appointed by early August. Theresa Morateck, Executive Director of Teaching, Learning, and Equity, will continue as Superintendent Designee until the interim superintendent is appointed. The Board acknowledges and thanks Ms. Morateck for her leadership, guidance, and support during this transition.
The Board of Education will continue to keep our families informed on the interim superintendent search and the permanent superintendent search.

School Security Update
Our number one priority is the safety, security, and well-being of our students, families, and staff.
In 2020, the School District of Beloit began using the Raptor Visitor Management System. The Raptor system allows us to better monitor visitors, contractors, and volunteers who enter our schools.
Upon entering any district building or school, all visitors will be required to sign in and present a picture ID. Acceptable IDs include state-issued IDs such as a driver's license, a passport, or a consular card. The ID will be scanned into the Raptor software system.
This protocol follows Board Policy 860, Rule 1, which states, "any person other than a student or district employee is regarded as a visitor and must report to the building's office for authorization before going anywhere in the school building."
At the July 19 Board of Education meeting, I presented an overview of our District's safety and security protocols and measures. You can access the Beloit Daily News article and view my two-slide presentation on our website.
Thank you for your cooperation and support of our safety protocols.

Vaccinations, Medications, and Emergency Medical Forms
- Make sure your student is up-to-date on their vaccinations. Students entering Kindergarten usually need several vaccinations (Varicella, MMR, Tdap, and Polio), and those entering 6th grade will need a recent Tdap vaccine.
- Daily medications should be given at home unless your child needs to receive medication during the school day. If this is the case, please have your healthcare provider complete our medication consent form which can be found on the district website.
- During the registration process, please make sure to complete the emergency medical/dental form through skyward and remember to check “Yes/Si” at the bottom of the form to give consent for treatment in an emergency situation. Completing this will allow your student to attend field trips throughout the school year and alerts our health staff of any health conditions your child may have.
For more information please access the School District of Beloit Student Health Newsletter.
Back to School Physicals
The School District of Beloit, in collaboration with Community Health Systems, will offer students the opportunity to receive a health office appointment with a licensed provider and their designee.
Appointments will take place at Beloit Memorial High School on Thursday, July 28th, and Friday, July 29th. All students will be eligible for a physical with or without insurance.
Please access the registration form; this form MUST be completed by the parent/guardian of the student wanting to obtain a physical. Please complete this form by Tuesday, July 26th.

Student Chromebook Repairs and Replacements
Families and guardians will have the opportunity to get their student's Chromebook repaired or replaced before the school year starts. This also applies to rising 4th graders who still need a Chromebook assigned to them.
Beginning Monday, August 8th until the first day of school, families and guardians can contact their child's school to request a repair or replacement. After reporting the lost/damaged Chromebook to the school's Secretary, the family member or guardian can drop off the damaged Chromebook to the main office at their child's school. A new one will be available to pick-up after 10:30 am the following business day.
Please make sure to ask the Secretary what their school hours of operation are, as not all schools have the same hours during the summer. As a reminder, we do not charge any fees or penalties for lost/damaged Chromebooks unless the damage was done maliciously. Any new student (who did not attend the SDB during the 21-22 school year) will have a Chromebook assigned to them once school is in session.
