Elite Girls 50: Counting Down Best Arizona High School Girls' Basketball Players in 2021-22

Congratulations to Morgan Evenson (So.), Meisha Caserio (So.), and Nicole Evenson (Sr.), who were selected by Dana Scott of the Arizona Republic as three of the fifty best players in the state!

Below, you can find each of their individual write-ups, courtesy of Scott.

Morgan Evenson, G, So. (#39)

Morgan complements Nicole Evenson to make the state's best sister combo since the Cavinder twins, 2019 All-Arizona selections Haley and Hanna, who also played for Gilbert that year. Morgan had a stellar freshman season, efficiently posting 9.6 points, with her 4.6 rebounds trailing her sister for second on the Lady Tigers. She added 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. She plays with good ambidexterity on her hands and drives, has a great jump shot and has vastly improved recognizing mismatches to square up and take defenders off the dribble to get buckets.

Meisha Caserio, G, So. (#38)

Improved as a better finisher over the summer and has a lot of upper body strength as a 5-foot-4 point guard. She was Gilbert's leading scorer last season at 13.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, team-best 3.3 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Caserio is arguably the most talented and volume shooter on a young Gilbert team, could be one of the state's best point guards, but is still maturing as she works to improve her assist-to-turnover ratio (0.48).

Nicole Evenson, G/F, Sr. (#37)

Committed to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the 5-foot-8 Evenson is the returning captain of Gilbert, which reached the 5A semifinals in March and finished with a 13-7 record. Holding a sinewy 5-foot-11 frame, Evenson has a high IQ as a floor general and plays more like a stretch-four, stretching defenses with her long-range shooting ability (35% from three last season), brings solid inside play, great court vision, getting lots of second-chance points. She was one of the AIA's San Tan All-Region's First Team selections who produced 12.5 points, led Gilbert with 7.3 rebounds and 3.9 steals, 3.0 assists and 0.9 blocks per contest.

Wishing Coach Mack the best!

We are excited to announce that current JV coach, Kylie Mack, will be leaving the program to take a head coaching position at BASIS in Chandler, Arizona.

An alumni of the program, Coach Mack had been the longest employed member of our staff (three years), having coached the freshmen team for one season, before taking over as the JV coach. We are wishing her the best on her new journey!
