Class Highlight - Food Processing

CSHS Meats is really cooking things up in the Agriculture Department. Students are currently working on creating sausage recipes. The team of students has been experimenting with different flavor combinations and processing techniques to get the best taste and texture.

Visit the CSHS Meats website to order meat products.

SAE Highlight - Rabbit Projects

Market Rabbits are a great project! The benefit to raising meat pen rabbits is that the equipment needed it minimal and less expensive than other projects, the project isn't quite as labor intensive as others, and the time commitment is approximately 5 weeks. Students would order a pen of rabbits (4) from a breeder and get them a week or a few days before rabbit validation in mid February (BCYLS). The student would raise the meat pen and get them to gain weight over the next six weeks. Meat pens are shown as three in a set, you have one alternate just in case.

What is an SAE?

SAE = Supervised Agriculture Experiences, this is a project where students apply academic and occupational skills, develop specific skills within an industry, and learn record keeping practices. There are wide varieties of SAEs depending on the student's interests.

Officer Corner:

A message from your 2015-2016 Vice President Kaytlyn Livingston.

Howdy my name is Kaytlyn Livingston, and I am College Station High Schools FFA chapter Vice President. FFA is a huge part of my life, it has molded me into the person I am today. Without FFA I would not have the speaking abilities, leadership roles, and friendships that I have today. I compete on the LDE team called AG advocacy in the fall semester and in the spring semester I compete on the CDE team called AG sales. Competing on these teams have helped me form new friendships and leadership skills more and more every year that I am in FFA. I love the national FFA and I wouldn't be who I am today without this organization in my life.
