From the Desks of O'Shaughnessy & Meneses

Hello Whitewater Family. We are getting excited! Summer School 2021 is right around the corner! Summer School registration starts April 12. Below you will find some very important information regarding signing up for classes. We have included a reminder about the health and safety protocols in place, a PDF of the course catalog, and registration instructions through Infinite Campus. Now would be an awesome time to make sure you have access to the Parent Portal and you have your log-in credentials ready to go! If you have questions or need assistance with this, please contact your building secretary. We are looking forward to working with you and your students!

Summer School Health & Safety Protocols

  • Symptom Monitoring

  • Face Coverings/Masks required.

  • Sanitization & Disinfection

  • No outside visitors allowed in building...only students and staff.

  • For school-related business or child pick-up, parents/guardians may ring buzzer for entry into main office area . Face coverings will be required upon entry.

  • Building will not open until 7:45am.

  • Breakfast available as grab-and-go.

  • There will be 3 lunches tied to 4th period classes to help ensure social distancing.

  • Lunch periods will be assigned by teacher. Student lunch periods will be determined once the master schedule is built. This happens at the beginning of May.

  • Seating will be assigned by 4th hour class.

  • No outside adults will be allowed in for lunch; students and staff only.

  • Class sizes will be capped to help ensure social distancing.

  • Sanitizer available in all classrooms. Staff and students will sanitize between classes.

  • Modifications to traditional curriculum and activities will be in place in order to limit person-to-person contact: especially in the areas of art, science, physical education, and music/drama.

  • We will utilize an additional locker room for swim lessons. We will hire locker room attendants to help students socially distance and to sanitize locker rooms.

Infinite Campus Registration Instructions

Attached is a document that reviews how to register your child for summer school through Infinite Campus. A few tips that will be helpful for you:

1. It will be important to fill up the class requests in order to allow your student to have a full schedule. The system will allow you to choose 8 "units" of classes as your first choices. Because sections of classes have a cap on the number of students, it will be beneficial to fill up with as many choices as possible...use all 8!

2. The system will also allow you to choose "Alternate Classes". It will be beneficial to select at least 2 "units" of alternate classes as well.

3. You will see that each course has a specified grade level range. Please use your child's grade that they will be in NEXT YEAR: Fall, 2021.

4. We will have the High School LMC open on MONDAY, APRIL 12 from 4pm-7pm for families that need assistance with registration and who need access to technology. This will be by appointment to ensure social distancing. Please complete the following sign-up if you are interested in coming into the High School on April 12. (See link below)

Class Spotlight: Band Lessons

Summer Band Lessons are offered for all students in band from incoming 5th graders to 12th graders! This year, we will be having two classes of beginners joining band (more information will be sent out VERY soon with your child!) and it is HIGHLY recommended that all beginners take Summer Band Lessons. We will cover the fundamentals, learn the first few notes, have tons of fun and learn how to properly care for your instrument to set you up for success later in the school year! Band Lessons sign up independently from regular summer school classes, we will send a Google Form for you to sign up for lessons. Beginners will have two lessons per week and students that have already participated in band will receive one lesson per week. If you have any questions, please contact Justin Kamp at jkamp@wwusd.org

Summer School Daily Schedule

Our schedule this year will be modified slightly. We will continue to have 4 periods of classes that run for fifty-five minutes each. High School credit recovery courses will again be broken into 2 periods of three hours each.

The major change is with our lunch period. With social distancing considerations in mind, we will have 3 lunch periods this year. These lunch periods will be tied to 4th period classes. Lunch time will be assigned by teacher and students will sit in the cafeteria by class. Determination of which lunch a particular teacher/student has will be determined after the master schedule is built. This way, we will be able to balance numbers of students in the cafeteria. Unfortunately, due to health protocols we will be unable to have family and friends join us during lunch as we have done in the past.

The schedule is posted below:
