Week of May 9, 2021
A Message From Our Principal
Greetings!
It’s already mid May and our seniors are preparing their final journey towards graduation. Credit completion has been underway and graduation plans are in the works. With the governor's statements of lifting outdoor regulations, we are just waiting for direction. But graduation will happen and be the pomp and circumstance that it has always been.
While in this pandemic and we have been in and out of virtual learning, It has been hard to recognize athletes and coaches for their accomplishments. Dr. Gruccio invited Niki Danz to the board meeting to be recognized. Niki is the all time leading girls soccer goal scorer here at EHT! Congratulations to Niki! Along with her recognition were two extraordinary teachers/coaches! Mr. Mark Jamison, our head boys swim coach, accepted recognition for the boys team which was the Press team of the year with a record of 10-1. Next recognition was Mr. Cameron Bell our boys basketball team head coach. Mr. Bell was recognized by The Press of Atlantic City, NJ.Com and South Jersey Sportszone as coach of the year! He supported our boys to a 14-1 season record and the title of North Division Public Champions! Great things happening at EHTHS! #EHTPRIDE
Don’t forget to tune into the virtual presentation of this year's play, Les Miserables! It will be streamed this weekend. May 14 will be the performers from the Wednesday/Friday cast and May 15 will be the Thursday/Friday cast. I’m looking forward to viewing both!. Please see below for viewing information. Hope you enjoy the hard work of our students' performance!
It’s here, the final four for EHT Idol!!! Each day this week Eagle News has shown a performance from one of our four semi-finalists. (Jordan Miller, Jayna Moskovitz, Gabe Depaor, and Alex Ciurlino). Two people will emerge from the students' vote. Best of luck to all!!
Until next week, stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!

#EHTREADY: THE ROAD FORWARD
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Students of the Week
STUDENT: Angelica Conde
NOMINATED BY: Ms. Moody
Angelica has always done a great job participating in class virtually, especially considering she moved to EHT this year. While Angelica's participation is exemplary, it is her willingness to help her fellow students virtually even if she has never met them that is most impressive. At the end of class, a student who often struggles asked if either myself or Ms. Subbotin could stay on directly after to help him but we had a class. Angelica, hearing his need for help, immediately volunteered to stay on the meet with him. Angelica stayed on with the student for almost 30 minutes and helped them with both the classwork and their homework. She even exchanged numbers if they needed more help later on!
STUDENT: Michelot Sine
NOMINATED BY: Ms. Crawford
Michelot has a sense of respect for others and good manners. He is a pleasure to have in class.
EHTHS Junior Receives Honorable Mention in Writing Contest

CLIMATE AND CULTURE
Ms. Dahme Interviewed by NPR
English teacher Jennifer Dahme was recently interviewed by Kira Limer, the Associate Director of Research & Evaluation for National Public Radio's program StoryCorps. Ms. Limer contacted Ms. Dahme since her students have participated in StoryCorps' The Great Thanksgiving Listen since its inception in 2015 and because Egg Harbor Township High School has the fifth highest nationwide participation among high schools. The Great Thanksgiving Listen is a national initiative that encourages young people to create an oral history of the United States by recording an interview with an elder, mentor, friend, or someone they admire. Ms. Dahme and Ms. Limer discussed the program, how to effectively implement it in the classroom, and whether Ms. Dahme had ideas to improve The Great Thanksgiving Listen.

COMMUNITY PRIDE
Key Club Spring Community Pride Day
The highlight of April was Spring Community Pride Day, Key Club’s first in-person event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers helped pick up trash near East Black Horse Pike along roadways, public property, and in non-residential problem areas (vacant lots) in neighborhoods and managed to collect 30+ bags of trash. Safety regulations were put in place and all volunteers were required to wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart. Overall, the event was successful and Key Club looks forward to having more in-person events in the future as COVID-19 cases lessen.

BOYS CREW
The EHT Boys Rowing Team finished an undefeated CAL season by taking First Place in the Varsity 8 category at the Atlantic & Cape May County Championships, held at Lake Lenape this past Sunday. The win helped EHT become the Boys and Girls overall point trophy winners for the first time. EHT Boys led over the entire 1500 meter course besting Saint Augustine’s by a large margin of open water and Absegami was a distant third. The Varsity 8’s success cannot be overstated as their dominance this season has caused other strong rivals to decide not to compete in the Varsity 8 category. The eight led by Scott Zimmerman, Carter Hubbard, Gage Thomas, Jimmy Curry, Justin Kent, Nik Simone, Faddy Omar, Max Berg and Coxswain Bailee Sikora was coming off a strong third place finish in the Philadelphia City Championships the previous Sunday. They are going to be competing in the Stotesbury Regatta in Philadelphia this weekend. Also, contributing to the teams strong showing were the Boys Novice 8, Gold Medal winners and the Boys Varsity 4 & Novice 4’s who took home the Bronze Medal.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Boys Volleyball celebrated its class of 2021 members with a 25-20, 25-21 senior night victory over St. Augustine Prep on Friday to sweep the season series between two rival schools. Neither team was particularly efficient on offense because of stout defensive play, but the Eagles were able to win the battle of attrition by making less errors on the serve and scoring crucial points late in the match. With the victory, the team moves to 5-2 on the season. Congratulations to the senior members of the team: Ivan Wang, Nicholas Fortis, Ayotoye Oguntuase, Jacob Valezuela, Edward Al-Nammour, and Michael Barnes.
Wednesday the team traveled to Vorhees to take on an 8-2 Eastern High School team. The boys played exceptionally well, not forfeiting a single serving error, but fell to the quickness of Eastern's attack. With the loss, the team falls to 5-3. The team finishes out the week with another top five team in South Jersey when Williamstown comes to town.
