LIR Event “Beer And Brewing in Wisconsin”
Tuesday, November 15 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm | Free
Sage Hall 1216
This lecture by Women’s Studies Professor Susan Rensing will explore the rich history of beer and brewing in Wisconsin. Using beer as a lens, we will analyze how new immigrants shaped Wisconsin culture and the anti-immigrant sentiment that fueled the temperance movement and Prohibition. We will also discuss some of the materials in brewery archives around the state and what UW Oshkosh students have been doing with these
materials in their course, History of Beer in the United States, during the fall 2016 semester.
Diversity and Inclusion Film Series: UnSlut
Reeve Union Theatre
In 2013, seventeen-year-old Rehtaeh Parsons took her own life. The Halifax teenager had been gang-raped a year and a half earlier by her classmates and labeled a "slut" as a result. Despite transferring schools many times, she could not escape constant cyber harassment and in-person bullying. Rehtaeh's is not the only story like this to make headlines in recent years. Why is the sexual shaming of girls and women, especially sexual assault victims, still so prevalent in the United States and Canada? UnSlut: A Documentary Film features conversations with those who have experienced sexual shaming, including the family and friends of Rehtaeh Parsons. Through interviews with sexuality experts, advocates, and media figures, UnSlut: A Documentary Film explores the causes and manifestations of sexual shaming in North America and offers immediate and long-term goals for personal, local, and institutional solutions.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger created by The Imagine Render Group. The basic premise is simple: Potters, craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity.
