Answering questions about the March 9 election
Getting the word out about an election during a pandemic is a challenge. I miss being able to meet with our community face-to-face to answer questions.
Our Board is asking the community to renew our existing levy for learning for the same amount -- no tax rate increase. The election is March 9.
We are answering your questions in a variety of ways.
First, information about the levy is posted on our website. We'll be adding questions to our FAQ as they come in. Please email questions to: ksdcommunications@kunaschools.org
We are working with school principals and parent teacher organization to schedule information sessions -- virtually -- where you can ask questions. Assistant Superintendent Dave Reinhart joined the Reed PTO on Facebook live Tuesday.
One of the questions asked during that session was:
"Does the funding for full-day kinder come from the levy or is it from somewhere else?"
The levy funds make full time free kindergarten possible. Here's why: Idaho only funds part time kindergarten. Levy funds and some other state funds allow us to hire the teachers needed to offer kindergartens full time. It also allows us to offer the other half day of kindergarten for free.
About $1 million of the levy would continue funding for 15 teachers to support full time kindergarten and to help reduce class sizes.
COMING NEXT WEEK: A closer look at school taxes.
