First Grade Weekly Update
September 11, 2015
September 8-11
Dear First Grade Families, September 11, 2015
The second week of school has been a fun and busy one! The children have continued working on letters and sounds and have jumped right into math. We will be getting the children ready for their classroom book boxes based on the results from our reading test that we took last week.
The first graders are adjusting to being in school all day. We take a snack break every morning around 10:00 to give us a little boost! Please send your child with a small snack each day. The first graders have been on their own in the lunch room. We appreciate the help and patience that all the fifth graders showed our first graders.
As these warm days continue, please remember to have your child bring gym shoes for PE class and for recess. Flip Flops can be dangerous for our little ones when they are running.
In math class, the children will be working on learning addition facts. We teach a variety of strategies to help students learn how to add two numbers together WITHOUT using their fingers! Please encourage your child to memorize their facts. We will be starting activities next week to reinforce this skill.
Each Friday your child will bring home a Friday Folder where we will put notes, Willow Creek school papers, and our weekly trick words to start practicing at home. Please take some time over the weekend to go through the folder with your child and sign the front sheet.
The first grade teachers enjoyed meeting many of the parents at Curriculum Night this week. We really appreciate your support and involvement in your child's experience at Willow Creek.
Thank you to everyone for the awesome job on the super hero posters. They are on display in the first grade hallway.
The end of each day is a busy one for us as we are all getting home in different ways. If your child is going to have a change in their “normal” departure transportation, please send a note to the teacher or call the school office so we are aware of it.
