SLCS District Update
Good evening SLCS Families and Staff Members,
As we continue our forward movement toward a quest for “normal”, we wish our secondary students best of luck on their exams next week.
South Lyon Area Youth Assistance (SLAYA)
Voluntary MI Backpack Home Test Program
SLCS is participating in the MI Backpack program through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. This is a voluntary program which offers free at-home COVID-19 tests for students, staff, and their families. Earlier in January, our district distributed tests from every building.
A second opportunity will be available for families and staff to receive the free test kits soon. Each building will be sharing a link to complete the building survey. The building will share the link to communicate when the test kit will be sent home. Families who have already received a kit can sign up to receive another (if extra kits are available).
Be on the lookout for communication from your building to sign up to receive the free test kit.

SLHS Unified Basketball
SLHS Unified Basketball will be playing at the South Lyon/East Basketball event on Friday, February 4th at South Lyon East High School. The Unified event will occur between the varsity showcase games. Unified sports joins students with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
Unified Basketball has been developed through the support of the South Lyon Boys Basketball team and boosters, our PEERS (Positively Empowering & Encouraging Relationships with Students) program, our students, staff (especially our special education staff), and families. Come and support this unique opportunity for all of our SLCS students.

6:40 Unified Game (6:40 or the conclusion of the girls' game)
7:15 Boys varsity game
Our PEER's students will be collecting donations to support our Unified program. The goal is to grow the program, and eventually play other Unified programs in the area.
