A Message from our Principal...
I hope everyone was able to spend some quality time with their family & friends over the recent winter break. My family was able to spend some time together, eat some delicious foods and played a few board games. Now that we are all refreshed from our recent mini break, I am hopeful students will finish strong this semester.
Congratulations to the winners of the homeroom contest in December for best Name, Slogan & Logo completion. Mr. Holmes’s homeroom won for best name, Ms. Olson’s homeroom won for best slogan & Ms. Harris’s homeroom won for best logo. Thank you to all the students who voted and participated to make this a fun filled event.
The month of January is particularly short with the Martin Luther King Holiday on Jan 18th and finals week set for Jan 25 to Jan 28th. It is so important for our students to make every day meaningful from now until the end of the semester. Teachers have been asked to reach out to students & students are being asked to reach out to teachers for any additional support to help them catch up & finish the semester strong!
Our December Student of the Month assembly has been moved to January 6th to accommodate the winter break schedule. Please look in your kmail for the invite to the assembly. The ASB will also be looking for your help in preparation for the MLK assembly. They will be asking each homeroom to participate in the assembly, much like the Veterans Day Assembly they hosted in November.
As we continue to settle into our routines and dive into our daily lessons I would like to provide a courteous reminder that students should be working in each class, each day. Regular communication with their teachers. All homeroom sessions meet once a week, either on Monday afternoon or Wednesday morning.
The teachers are excited to welcome students back to school. WAVA returns to regularly scheduled sessions on Monday January 4th. If you are a junior or senior at WAVA please check our assessment scheduling program, Testing Nirvana, to see if you have been scheduled for a make-up End of Course exam on January 20th or January 21st.
If you have questions about the exam scheduled or your location placement, please talk to you homeroom teacher.
I hope you have a great day! My virtual door is always open.

The Counselor Connect
It’s time for graduating seniors to apply for financial aid!
The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is the only way to apply for federal student aid. The schools you list on your application will use FAFSA information to evaluate your financial need and determine how much federal aid you are eligible to receive. Many states and colleges also use information from your FAFSA to provide their own financial aid.
Each January, the FAFSA is available for the upcoming school year. It is best to fill it out as early as you can because some aid is first come, first served.
When you complete the FAFSA, you’ll need to provide personal and tax information. If you’ve filed your taxes already, you may be able to automatically retrieve the information from the IRS. If you haven’t, just estimate your tax information and update it later.
Complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov. Make sure to fill out and submit the FAFSA each year you are in college.
After you submit your FAFSA, you’ll receive your Student Aid Report (SAR). Your SAR summarizes the information in your FAFSA. Review it and make corrections if needed.
Seniors please look for the link to the Counselor Senior meeting in our Kmail that was sent December 3rd. It provides additional important information regarding high school graduation requirements, FAFSA, scholarship search and much more. Check it out!
ALL students: Please review your second semester schedule for accuracy. If you need changes or have questions, please send your counselor a Kmail.
