Heritage Bears
April 2017
Principal's Message
Dear Heritage Intermediate Families,
As the fourth quarter continues at Heritage, we are working hard to maintain our academic momentum and focus. Our students and teachers are working diligently on grade level instruction that will help our students finish up the year strong. We will continue providing high-quality instruction during the 4th quarter just as we have each quarter.
Character Word of the Month
Our character education word for April and May is “SELF-CONTROL.” Self-control is the
ability to manage your behavior in a positive way. Be sure to discuss this word with your child and encourage them to exercise self-control both at home and at school. Staff members throughout our building will be looking for students who are exhibiting the character trait of self-control during April and May.
Temperature Changes
Please remember as the weather changes we need to be sure our students are dressed
appropriately. One day the temperature may be 70 degrees and the next it may be 40 degrees. We ask that you help your child continue to make good choices regarding their apparel each day. It’s a good idea to always send them with a jacket as temperatures sometimes fluctuate in the spring as the days get warmer.
MAP Testing Information
Parents, please help our students do their best on the MAP Test by making sure they get ten hours of sleep each night, eat a great breakfast each morning, wear comfortable clothes for testing, and bring a healthy snack for the school day. I also need to inform parents that students are not allowed to have cell phones in their possession during MAP Testing. If possible, please have students leave their cell phones at home during their testing dates. If a student brings a cell phone during a testing day the phone must be collected by the teacher prior to testing and returned at the end of the testing session. Students are not allowed to have cell phones in their pockets, purses, or backpacks during testing. Please read additonal MAP testing information and schedule below. We appreciate your assistance!
It’s a GREAT day to be a BEAR!

What's Happening in Art
In third grade, students are working on projects that relate to their spring music program. Themes for this artwork include "Meet Me in Saint Louis," "This Little Light of Mine," and 1950's Rock 'n' Roll. Fourth and Fifth grade students are working on learning how to draw portraits. They have been practicing the different shapes that are used to make the different parts of the face and will be putting it all together in a final drawing after Spring Break. Art Club members have learned how to weave with yarn using soda straws for a loom, and are currently creating designs that will be traced onto tooling foil and used to make a lid for a box.
*Art to Remember fundraiser forms were sent home with students after spring break. Our students have worked very hard to create beautiful artwork that can be put on many items like t-shirts, mugs, phone cases, and more! The deadline for your orders will be April 7th. Thank you so much for supporting the arts!
