December 2022- Enon Elementary School
Principal's Message
Dear Enon Families:
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We look forward to having our gators back at Enon on Monday.
Last year, parents, staff, and students (grades 3-12) took the NASSP Building Ranks Survey about our school’s culture. From November 28 through December 9, 2022, CCPS will once again be giving the Building Ranks survey to parents, staff, students (grades 3-12), and community partners. We look forward to continuing to partner with you in improving our school culture. Be on the lookout for the school-specific link that I will send out this week. We greatly value your thoughts.
Thank you for your continued support with having your child reinforce reading skills at home through independent reading, family reading time and using Lexia and MyON. We have added a program (thanks PTO) called Imagine Math to our chromebook backpack to support students in Math in addition to Dreambox.
We have three weeks of school until our Winter Break. Our winter parties will be on Dec. 15th and 16th. Times are as follows:
Thursday, Dec. 15th:
1st grade: 2:00-3:00 pm
2nd grade: 1:00-2:00 pm
Friday, Dec. 16th

Third Grade 11:00-12:00 pm
Fourth Grade 1:30-2:30 pm
Fifth Grade 12:30-1:30 pm
I will be sending out a menu and permission slip soon. If you are interested in volunteering, please coordinate with your child's teacher and/or room parent.
Our Gingerbread Santa Shop will be the week of Dec. 5-9. We will be sending out a flyer with your child's time and there is more information from PTO in this week's PTO email. Here is the Santa Shop Schedule for class visits. Please note that students will only have one scheduled opportunity to visit but the Santa Shop will also be open on Saturday morning on Dec. 10th. from 9 to 12.
There will also be a Winter Break Spirit Week the week of Dec. 12-16. School is closed from Dec. 17- Jan. 2 with classes resuming on Jan. 3, 2023. I hope your family has a wonderful holiday season and happy new year.

STEAM News
Enon Engineers have been learning about the Engineering Design Process in STEAM class - how we plan, build, test and improve our designs. Students are learning to collaborate with a group and use positive communication when working together to solve the given problem. In December, kindergarten students will design gingerbread houses. First graders will create designs which represent the seasons. Second graders are designing antler’s for Max! Third grade and fifth graders will be creating packaging to safely transport cookies and candy canes while fourth graders create some holiday pixel art.

ART News
In November, K & 1st created paintings featuring different kinds of lines: zig zag, straight, and curvy. They then turned these paintings into mixed media line monsters!
2nd & 3rd grade students have created Youth Art Month Posters featuring the symbols of Virginia. These symbols include the cardinal, dogwood flowers, and other iconic Virginia imagery.
4th and 5th have learned about Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. She uses dots to create optical illusions in her art. Studentsare working on creating mixed media pumpkins inspired by Kusama’s unique style.
