Celiac Disease
Should you be concerned?
Also known as... Celiac Sprue or Gluten-sensitive Enteropathy
Celiac Disease is an autoimmune and digestive disorder that causes the inability to digest gluten. Affecting the lining of the small intestine, Celiac Disease causes the natural occurrence of nutrient absorption in the body to become strained. People with C.D. often experience symptoms of iron deficiency anemia, missed menstrual periods, seizures, etc.
Celiac Disease damages villi, hair-like structures covering the small intestinal lining, causing a decrease in the amount of nutrients absorbed.
Symptom: Skin Rash
There is no cure, cutting out gluten from your diet completely is the only thing that will keep symptoms at bay. Pro-longed gluten in your diet will permanently damage your small intestine and cause you to take nutrient supplements through IV.
