Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
Our September month went by quickly, but it was filled with fun and learning!
Students were taught the routines and expectations of classrooms and our building to help ensure a happy and safe environment.
Teachers have established specific routines for the children to follow, blended with consistent practices to help give our students a clear understanding of their learning environment.
As a building we are working together as TEAM. Our acronym TEAM stands for:
Treat others with RESPECT
Everyone is RESPONSIBLE
Always SAFE
Make GOOD CHOICES
We also think of our families as part of our TEAM. Please talk with your child(ren) at home about TEAM and ask them what they are learning to help us create a happy and safe learning environment.
At home, you may also want to establish routines. Many families build a daily quiet time when it is a "no-screen" time. This quiet time provides students the opportunity for completing schoolwork or for recreational reading if there is no homework. During this quiet time a suitable place, somewhat free of other distractions, should be available. The routine of a daily quiet time provides an opportunity to develop self-discipline, stimulate imagination, and enhance reading skills.
Routines can also make completing chores easier for both children and parents. If children are consistently expected to complete routine household duties at the same time on the same day in the same place, they soon begin to develop a responsibility for their commitment and contribution to the family. However, please keep in mind that is is important for children to be provided free time as well as structured time in their day.
We wish your family a fun-filled fall season and we hope you enjoy October in Michigan!
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw

Helpful Family Websites
Here is a site that brings hundreds of family friendly websites to one spot. We hope you find it helpful.
Sunset Drop off and Pick-up
A few reminders for parents that drop off or pick up:
- Students being dropped off should exit on the curb-side and exit on to our sidewalk.
- Always use the pedestrian walk-ways designated with yellow lines.
- School is dismissed at 3:35 and we ask that parents coming for pick up come to the school closer to the end of school day.
- Please use open parking spaces in our parking lot if you arrive early and go to our gym door for your student pick-up.
- Please park rather than blocking N. Boulevard if possible.
- Parents entering the parking lot will need to enter coming south and take a right into our parking lot.
- We are asking that parents refrain from turning left into our parking lot. (You may choose to go to 4th St. and around to Wellhouse road by the baseball fields.)
- Parents at our gym door, please remain in the grass area and keep our sidewalk open for our students exiting.
Thank you for your support and we appreciate the patience our Sunset Families have demonstrated. I am proud to say I have witnessed parents being extra careful to watch for pedestrians. I have witnessed parents taking turns in the parking lot as they exit from our parking lot and great modeling of citizenship for our students.
Thank you Sunset Families!
