"Ladies First" was still the theme this past week as our Lady Brickies (basketball and wrestling) were the only ones competing for the second week in a row.

ALL of our winter sports programs are officially underway, which means the boys will FINALLY get their chance next week as basketball opens the regular season!

I know it's a few days early, but let's all BE THANKFUL ... it's time for BricksCenter!

Girls

After running their first 4 opponents off the floor by a combined score of 239-124 on their way to a 4-0 start, the Lady Brickies looked to keep things rolling with two more contests this past week!

On Tuesday, Hobart was @ Lake Station for a non-conference match-up. With both teams entering the contest undefeated on the year, you knew this one would be fun! Play was INTENSE on both ends throughout ... in the 2nd half, the Lady Brickies seized some control as they pushed a slim lead to double-figures ... and closed things out at the free throw line to earn a hard fought 73-61 VICTORY!! Senior Asia Donald posted another double-double with 32 points and 12 rebounds! Sophomore Ladan Weinman added 9 points and senior Niko Latinovic chipped in 7 to go along with her 12 rebounds. In fact, Hobart got scoring from EVERY player to help secure the win! Junior Emma Ortiz was once again ferocious on the D-D-Defensive side of the ball with 4 steals and 8 deflections.

Saturday afternoon, the River Forest Ingots visited The Friendly City for a neighborhood SHOWDOWN! During the first 8 minutes, the Ingots frustrated the Lady Bricks with some tenacious defense and scrappy play. Over the next 8 minutes, Hobart began to settle in and gain control to the tune of a 33-18 halftime advantage. After halftime, it was ALL BRICKIES!! Our girls out-paced River Forest 38-16 and won BIG 71-31!! Hobart put 3 players in double figures in the scoring column ... Donald poured in a whopping 37 points and both Ortiz & classmate Jesse Neace each added 11 in the win!

Hobart is now 6-0 on the year! This is the best (... I say the BEST) start for the Lady Brickies since the 2009-2010 squad began the season with 12 straight W's!! UNBELIEVABLE!! Our girls will look to keep it going next Saturday against Calumet! GOOD LUCK LADIES!!

Wrestling

Girls Wrestling is a new endeavor for the Brickies. With the IHSAA labeling it an "emerging sport", the trial run is underway to see how many schools will participate and how sustainable it is. If enough schools get on board, Girls wrestling could become a "sanctioned sport" just like the other 21 that fall under the umbrella of the IHSAA.

Based on the early returns in H-town, Girls Wrestling is a HIT! Currently, there are twenty-TWWWWWOOOOOOOOO Lady Brickies listed on the roster and 16 were competing on Saturday at Rochester High School! This was the FIRST EVER competition for Hobart Girls wrestling and OUR GIRLS SHINED!! Out of 25 total schools in attendance, the Lady Brickies placed FIRST with 136 points! Freshman Joanna Cantu WON her weight class ... classmate Maddie Lams placed 2nd ... and senior Emma Spinks, juniors Jillian Wilkinson & Ja'Nyse Gates, and freshman Makayla Yarchan all took 3rd in their respective weight classes!!

WHAT AN AMAZING START FOR THE LADY BRICKS!! Hobart will be action again on Saturday, December 10th @ LaPorte and will host Lake Central & Portage on Tuesday, December 13th!
