January Weekly Update
January, 2024
Soaring for Excellence through Commitment, Collaboration and Community
Dear Minnieville Elementary School Families:
Happy New Year! We were so happy to see our students as they came through the doors on Tuesday Jan 2nd- our first day back for 2024!
This is a great time to work with your child writing goals for the remainder of the school year. If they are in grades K, 1 and 2- make sure they know all of their letters, sounds, numbers and addition/subtraction facts. If they are in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade make sure they are reading nightly and know their addition/subtraction facts and multiplication/division facts.
As we finish out the second quarter of this school year check to see if your child has completed assignments and made up all missing classwork. If your child's teacher has any concerns, they will request a parent teacher conference with you. At any time, you have questions do not hesitate to contact the teacher. Remember, we are partners in your child's education.
We have an abundance of lost and found items- many of them are coats and jackets. Put your child's name in their coats and jackets and stop by the school if they have lost an item.
We feel privileged to serve as your administrative team at the best public school in Prince William County! Please feel free to contact us at 703.670.6106 or by e-mail at ellisdt@pwcs.edu and singletl@pwcs.edu

Attendance Matters at Minnieville
At Minnieville Elementary we take pride in SOARING for EXCELLENCE. This applies to attendance too!
At the 5th unexcused absence, administration will meet with the parent to develop an attendance plan. Further absences will involve the county attendance officer.
We understand that students do get ill, but we need to make parents aware of children who have excessive absences. If your child has 10 or more absences (excused and unexcused combined, you will be receiving a letter explaining that any further absences for illnesses could require a doctor's note.)
If a student misses 10 or more days excused or unexcused days this may be a cause for student retention.
Please continue to work with our office staff and your childβs teacher to make arrangements that limit your childβs time out of school. Our job is to do everything we can to give your child the best possible educational experience possible and great attendance will allow us to meet our goals!
