Notification of Positive COVID-19 Case on Campus vs. Identification as a Close Contact

As of January 1, 2021, the District is required (Assembly Bill 685) to provide notice of potential exposure to all employees and students who were physically present at a school site at the same time as a confirmed case of COVID-19. This notification will be sent electronically from your school administration each time a person is identified as testing positive for COVID-19, regardless of whether or not your student was directly exposed to the positive individual.

For students who are identified as a “close contact”, personal, telephonic notifications are made by a member of the school staff. A close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of a COVID-19 case for a cumulative of 15 minutes within any 24-hour period during the infectious period. The staff member will identify themselves, inform you that your student was identified as a close contact and explain the quarantine requirements as they relate to your student’s vaccination status.

Students identified as a close contact who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to quarantine as long as they remain free of symptoms. Unvaccinated students are required to complete a 10-day quarantine. Unvaccinated students who undergo a COVID-19 test after the 5th day of exposure and receive a negative test result may return to campus on the 8th day of quarantine as opposed to serving the entire 10-day period. Our staff will explain this information in detail, including the dates specific to your student’s exposure.

Should your student be required to quarantine, they will continue their learning through Short Term Independent Study (STIS). The school will initiate the process to sign-up for STIS when you are notified of the need to quarantine. Your student will be provided daily class assignments from each teacher for the duration of their quarantine.

Highland High School Robotics- Creativity Award!

On May 15 HHS Robotic Team 7607, The Blackbirds, won the Creativity Award sponsored by Rockwell Automation in the Game Design Challenge. Due to COVID, the students weren’t able to build a physical robot, so the Bulldogs designed a virtual game that was deemed "Most Creative" in this nationwide competition. Way to go Bulldogs! We are so proud of you for continuing to work hard throughout the pandemic!

Peach Jar

Antelope Valley Union High School District uses an electronic flyer communication tool called “Peachjar.” To view school-approved digital flyers, simply click the Peachjar link on your school’s website homepage below. This “green” initiative saves our schools tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. On top of that, posting school flyers in this "electronic backpack" removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers.

Please click on your school name below, and then on a flyer, and an orange “Register” button will pop up. Follow the registration instructions to start receiving important information.
