Energy and Water Conservation

By Helena Kearns

What is energy and water conservation?

Energy and water conservation is the preservation of energy and water.

Making use of rainwater

A green water alternative, known as rainwater harvesting, can be used to help the environment, it can have a positive impact on the amounts of carbon emmisions created, as well as save the hotel money. Rainwater harvesting is the exercise of collecting and using rainwater. The water can be diverted into underground storage tanks, and then used for things such as gardening.

Switching bulbs

Compact fluorescent light bulbs can use as little as 1/4 of the energy of regular incadescent light bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs can last 6 to 15 times as long, meaning they will have to be replaced less often, so you will save money on the cost of the bulbs.

A/C vs Fan

When burning fossil fuels to supply energy, power plants can discharge clouds of soot and other pollutants into the air. Fans require as little as 1/10 the amount of energy needed to run an air conditioner. So, by using fans instead of air conditioners, the amount of air pollution by power plants can be decreased drastically. Because fans use less energy, they are much cheaper to run.
