PARENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT THROUGH DISTANCE LEARNING
The commitment of Alief ISD's parents and guardians to the education of their child(ren) and youth is exceptional and appreciated. Texas’ compulsory school attendance law (TEC §25.085) compels parents and guardians to have their children attend school each day of their instructional program. Alief ISD’s parents and guardians understand this responsibility, and their support of regular attendance is appreciated.
When lessons are scheduled to be delivered virtually, attendance is still expected. Student attendance can be tracked based on student participation in online assignments and activities, which might include:
- signing into their AliefHub account, district Google account, i-Ready, I-Station, Jason Learning, EduSmart, STEMScopes, etc.
- Schoology assignments and activities
- correspondence with course instructors
- completed journals, workbooks
Alief ISD appreciates all of the guidance provided by parents and guardians as they support their student's meaningful engagement in learning through virtual means. The tips and tools offered here identify specific actions that can be taken in support of continuous learning outside the four walls of a classroom.https://www.aliefisd.net/site/Default.aspx?PageID=13869
STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT THROUGH VIRTUAL MEANS
Have you ever...
- Been online using a phone, tablet, or computer?
- Read or sent an email or text?
- Typed a document, developed a presentation or created some other thing using an electronic application?
- Had a conversation with someone via FaceTime, Google Hangout, SeeSaw, Skype or some other app?
- Recorded a video or taken a picture of something using a device?
- Shared a picture, document, video, website link, or anything else with someone using a technology tool?
- Watched a video or movie using a device?
- Learned anything or shared what you learned about something when doing any of the above activities?
- Used a technology device in any way and learned something from it?
If you can answer "Yes" to any one of the above questions, then chances are you have engaged in distance learning -- especially if you created something that you shared with another person.
Teachers in Alief are finding ways to help kids participate in learning beyond the classroom. Students in Alief will have the chance to show what they know virtually. Imagine the possibilities!
All students should log into the AliefHUB and access their Schoology accounts!
*If your student does not remember their AliefHUB log in, please contact your child's teacher. We are all here to support student success!
