Mrs. Hladun's Tidings

One of the things I love about Lincoln and LCES is the number of active duty and retired military in our community. Some of you may know that I am the daughter of a Veteran - my dad attended at the AF Academy and has spent his life serving our country. He retired after 26 years of active service as a pilot. After a stint in the private sector he went back to the AF and worked as an academic instructor for the USAF Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB for 21 years. He retired this summer from full time employment with the military at 78 years old. I have a special place in my heart for those in our community who are members of our armed forces - your service and the sacrifices you and your family make are deeply appreciated.

So with a happy heart, I'm thrilled our site is producing our first Veteran's Day Celebration on Thursday, November 14th. Tremendous thanks to Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Wetzstein, and Mrs. Stanley for their efforts to produce this special event. Ways you can participate:

  • Many children in our school have friends and family that are currently serving or have served our country. We would like to honor them. Please bring in a COPY of a picture of friends and relatives to go up on our Wall of Honor. Please label the picture with the name of the person, the student(s) that the person is related to and how they served. Each LCE Family can send in 3 pictures max. Bring pictures to school (the office or your child's teacher) by Nov. 1.
  • Attend our evening performance on Thurs., 11/14 at 6:30 pm in the MPR. The LCES and local community are invited, and you are encourage to bring currently serving members of our Armed Forces and/or Veteran's to enjoy the celebration of their service.
  • If the evening time is not a good option for you, consider joining us for our day time student assemblies on Thurs., 11/14 at 8:20 am or 2 pm in the MPR. Seating will be limited, and will be in the back of the MPR for the daytime assemblies.

Believe Update

Wow! PTC is thrilled announce that our Believe fundraiser was a big success! The fundraiser brought in over $15,000 in profit. The products will be delivered to school on Tuesday, 10/29. As soon as the items are organized, we'll push out a notification via social media. Items must be picked up by 6 pm from the MPR!

The funds raised support the overall PTC budget, which funds teacher classrooms, art docent, technology, community building activities, and more.

Please watch for a Sign Up Genius via social media and next week in the Colt Connection to help sort and distribute items.

Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Shelton's class were the top sellers, and they'll earn a class pizza party! Congratulations!

PTC Boo Bash coming on Saturday, 10/26!

Our PTC hosts a wonderful Halloween celebration each fall - this year's event is a Boo Bash - trunk or treat, Stranger Things themed haunted house (thanks, WatchDOGS!), family dance, pizza, raffles, and more!

Contact PTC with any questions:

We are hosting one additional LiveScan session thanks to our friends at Sunset Notary! They'll be set up in front of the MPR on the night of Boo Bash from 4:30-7ish pm.

Boundary Study/2020-2021 Registration Update

NEW INFORMATION: Please know that REGISTRATION will be running from mid December to early January this year (including TK registration, K registration and returning student commitments). In addition, the district will be accepting and processing INTRADISTRICT requests in January/early February, too. Please let your friends and neighbors know so they aren't caught by surprise, and they have access to any/all options!

EXISTING INFORMATION: At the School Board meeting on 9/17/19, Superintendent Leaman shared three options for the potential boundaries for LCES and SLES. Mr. Leaman will be hosting community meetings in the coming months to share the boundary options, to share potential ways that students will be assigned to schools (i.e. 5th graders, students on intras, etc...) and to collect input from families. The board will be making a decision in November (this date is new information!) so that the district is prepared for enrollment and staffing decisions that need to come in early 2020. Stay tuned for the dates/times/locations.

There will also be discussion and decisions this winter about extended day kindergarten options at each WPUSD elementary school as well as a decision to come about where the district's new dual immersion program will be housed.

Here is a color version of the various boundary options that are being considered:

Parking, Drop Off & Pick Up Safety

  • We find it is less congested before 8 am and after 2:50 pm.
  • Children who are riding a bike, scooter or skateboard must wear a helmet - it's the law!
  • We ask that children walk their wheeled vehicles once they are on campus for everyone's safety.
