Links to Learning for Week of December 14-18

Big picture

Hello Wilkesboro Families!

UPDATE: Thursday, December 17 is a remote learning day. All students will learn from home. Please have your child log in using their Chromebook to their SeeSaw and Google Classroom accounts. There will be a live zoom this morning (teachers will announce times) and open office hours via zoom this afternoon. You can watch the morning news for 12-17-2020 below. If you need help, please call the school.

Here are some updates for the week of December 14-18. It is our last week before winter break, and there’s a lot going on!

First, we’d like to let you know that our PTO has WES t-shirts, sweatshirts, face masks, and more for sale by pre-orders only through December 30, 2020. You can see what’s available and place your order online by following the link above. If you’d like to place a cash order, please message or call Beckie Spears or Carol Cleary directly and we can help. All products will be delivered here to your student in January. Items are priced low, and any profit that is made will come directly back to help PTO support our school.

Next, we continue to collect canned food and non-perishable goods for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Please send your donations to school with your child. We will accept donations through December 15.

Next, we’d like to let you know that we have some special dress up days planned for students this week. On Tuesday, as we celebrate our annual sing-a-long virtually for the first time ever, we invite students to wear hats and crazy socks for this fun event. On Thursday, as classes enjoy special read alouds, we invite students to wear their favorite holiday outfits or sweaters. And on Friday, in Wilkesboro tradition, we invite your students to wear their pajamas for PJ day! Please make sure that your child can work as usual even on these special dress up days.

We’d like to let you know that Friday, December 18 is an early release day for all students. We will dismiss school at 12:30. We also want you to know that school will be closed for students for the winter holidays from December 21 - January 4. We hope that your family enjoys this time together.

2020 has been quite a year, and we are grateful to our school community for helping us through the changes and challenges. We have a new appreciation for the value of a day at school together and for the support and encouragement of our parents from home. Thank you for patience, support, and encouragement in this challenging year. We look forward to a bright 2021 with optimism and confidence that better times are ahead for us all!

About Attendance

Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded, those absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.

For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
