Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 14th June 2019
Roving Reports from our Young Journalists
Segovia 2019
The fountains were at the Royal Palace just outside of Segovia. They were really fun because we got wet (most of us!) and we even had to get changed behind a hedge! One of the fountains started off small then shot up into the sky. There was another that looked like a stage with loads of statues which squirted water from their mouths.
We loved the hostel especially the breakfasts because there was a lot of variety including brioches, muffins, croissants, toast and a choice of orange juice or hot chocolate. Some of the dorms were better than others at getting to sleep on time!
We visited some stunning places including the Cathedral, the Royal Palace, the Castle which looked like Hogwarts. We also liked the aqueduct which we could just see from our hostel. We thought it was amazing that there was no mortar supporting it, just the stones and bricks on their own.
Year 3 Visit Harlow Carr
Olivia and Freddie report for us...
At Harlow Carr we did a workshop about parts of the flower. We collected different parts of the flower and one of them is the carpel (which has the ovary, style and the stigma in it).
We also played the bee pollination game when we put on silly bee hats and swapped the bean bags into different hoops. Whichever group managed to swap all the bean-bags first won. This is like the bees moving pollen to all the flowers they visit.
Last of all we played at the play area where I (Freddie) pretended I was a monster and if I touched someone, they became a monster too. There was more than one playground and they were great.
It was a really good day but we were still glad to get on the bus home!
Thumbs up!

Oscar's Bookings and Cancellations
Thank you to the parents who read this section on the last newsletter and have made a big effort to book in ahead of time! Please can we encourage everyone to make sure they use the booking system for Oscar's? Staff are busy looking after the children or making breakfast in the morning, so we really need everyone to use the booking system please. Similarly, please book ahead for after school sessions, thank you (although we are aware there can be the need for the odd last minute request!). It may help to know that you are able to cancel sessions yourself as long as you don't leave it until only an hour or so before. Click on ‘My Bookings’ then ‘Booking Details’. Find the booking reference for the date in question and click on it and near the bottom there’s an option to cancel dates.
We have arranged with the PFI company who manage the school site to have access to school for Oscar's in the last two weeks of the summer holidays. Unlike schools in NYCC sites, we do not have full (or free!) access to school in the holidays, which can make running the holiday club more challenging. We do not plan to have any holiday club dates in the May half term break.
Our summer holiday dates are:
Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st, Thursday 22nd August
Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th August
Booking is now open!

Non-Uniform Day: Thank you for all donations received today. Of course, it's not too late to bring in your 'jolly jars' or tombola prizes during the coming week too!
Summer Fair: Only eight days to go! Saturday 22nd June sees our summer fair, running from 12 until 3.30pm. A fantastic family event open to the whole community: Bar, BBQ, Forest School activity and bouncy castle plus many more stalls and a special guest. As well as sponsorship from Hambleton Roofing, we have gained further generous support from local fireworks' company 'Bright Star Fireworks' and Renaissance Hair and Beauty Boroughbridge, which is amazing - thank you!
Fancy Dress Fun Run: Please can all sponsor forms and money be brought in to the school office by Friday 21st June. There will be a prize for the child who raises the most sponsor money! This year we will be adding fun to the run by asking runners to ‘dress up’ (only if they wish!) There will be a prize for best fancy dress too! Good luck!
Summer Fair Helpers: There will be a rota for helpers on the day; if you can help please contact the Friends.
Summer Fair Stalls: Do you have your own business or know someone who would like a table top stall? Contact the school office for a form. Only £5 a stall!
Competition Tent: All children will be welcome to enter our competitions for the summer fair. We will be holding a Lego model, miniature garden, and drawing a picture on the story book theme competitions. New for this year, parents are invited to put their baking skills to the test. All cakes will be sold through a silent auction. The cake which raises the most money will win a prize for its creator!
School Disco: 5th July sees the last disco of the school year. Please see our lovely poster for full details. Our thanks to Lily who has done an amazing job this year, making sure all our posters are colourful, eye catching and full of useful information!
