Help Us Keep Zoom Humming
Help keep Zoom sessions humming by creating a calm and quiet work space away from distractions and noise. Headphones help minimize feedback and other noises, especially if more than one child is sharing a learning space.
Back to School Night Change
Back to school night is an event for principals and teachers to welcome you back to school, introduce ourselves, and present key information for the year. We want to keep the intention of it., but change the delivery method to be more fitting with the times. Due to recent issues with hosting large events on Zoom, we will instead package this year's Back to School Night in a video for you to watch in the comfort of your own home and at a time you find most convenient. On Thursday, September 24, you will receive an email from your student's teacher with a video from me on behalf of the entire school and a video from your student's teacher. As always, teachers are available for private follow up.
Counselor Corner
Dearest Forest Hills Families,
This month through our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, I will be introducing the virtue of Courage. As a school community, we will be examining how Courage looks, sounds, and feels. Students will be encouraged to be courageous while learning how to conquer things that might frighten or scare them. Children need reassurance that fear is a natural feeling and to help them understand that it is okay to feel scared and afraid. Courage isn’t fearlessness, but instead, it is our ability to choose the right thing even when we are scared.'
The definition students will be learning this month for Courage is: To choose what is good, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary!
For your reference, here are links for extension activities if you would like to explore COURAGE further as a family:

Asynchronous SEL lessons will be available to students weekly by 8 a.m. each Monday morning. Students may complete these supplementary lessons at their convenience any time throughout the week. Students will find their grade level lessons in their respective Google

Getting Started Tech Support
Tech Information Sessions
LOSD hosted two Tech Information Sessions covering the “how tos'' for getting started with distance learning. The session recordings and presentations are posted on the district site under Resources/Tech Support for Families.
Tech Support Ticket
A majority of tech concerns can be resolved by submitting a Tech Support ticket -- the link is on all school and district homepages for easy access to help with passwords, log-ins, hardware fixes, etc.
Google Classroom Guardianship
By now all parents and guardians should have received an email requesting you to accept guardianship of your student's Google Classroom. If you need assistance with this request, please submit a request through the Tech Support button. Note: accepting guardianship simply gives you the option of selecting how often you would like to receive summaries (weekly, daily, or no summary) of your student's Google Classroom activity. Only student accounts have access to Google Classroom.

Verify Student Info by September 18
If you haven't already, take a few moments to verify your student's information for the 2020-21 school year. This is required. Login to ParentVUE and review/update your student's information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:
Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
Allowing parents to review the health conditions on file at your student’s school.
Enabling distribution of electronic devices covered by the district's Technology Agreement.
The verification window closes September 18, 2020.
If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click “I am a Parent,” then click “Forgot Password.” If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact the school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact the school.
