From Mrs. Barry:
April showers bring May flowers! Here we are, finally at the end of the year! On the one hand, it feels like Spring Break was only yesterday. On the other hand, I feel like this year has been like the song that never ends...it's just gone on and on and on!
I love May - but not because school is ending. To me, May is a time for moving forward. From moving up to a new grade level to graduation, we spend time looking ahead. We celebrate all the things from the current year - banquets, proms, parties - while planning for tomorrow. Just like May is filled with literal blooming flowers, so is it filled with our students blooming. We love reflecting on - and celebrating - how much they have grown.
Though this has been a very unique year, May still brings the promise of the future. Thank you for all your support as we continue to grow great minds at MWE!
We need your feedback!
Our MWE team will be looking at what things we've done this year that we need to keep, what we need to think twice about, and what we need to stop. We need YOUR feedback as well. Please take a minute to complete a quick three question survey at the link below to help us guide our reflections and planning for the upcoming year.
Virtual Talent Show - Deadline EXTENDED!
Dear MWE Parents and Students:
Our MWE Talent Show is a wonderful school community event in which students sing, dance, juggle, double-dutch, and hula-hoop their hearts out! Know any magic tricks? Love to tell jokes? Cool karate moves? We need you! Take this week to brainstorm what you would like to do, if you would like to participate.
This year’s talent show will take place virtually on May 21st. Sign up and permission slips are have been extended to Monday, May 3rd.
You have 2 options for submitting your video entry into the talent show. You may either film yourself at home and upload your submission to the talent show google drive (Due May 7th) or you may come on your grade level’s designated day to be filmed after school. A link to the google drive and instructions on how to upload a video will be in next week’s Eagle Updates.
Dates for filming after school:
• Kindergarten & 1st Grade – Tuesday May, 4th
• 2nd & 3rd Grade – Wednesday May 5th
• 4th & 5th Grade – Thursday May 6th
*Students wishing to have videos recorded at school and that fill out permission slip may stay after school on their day. More specific time information will be sent out after students send in permission slips.
Things to remember:
- Permission slips must be filled out for any student wanting to have a video in the talent show.
- Students will be permitted to participate in ONE act only.
- Only group acts with siblings will be allowed this year.
- All acts will be kept to a 1 min 30 sec maximum.
- If using music for singing, dancing, tumbling, etc. the lyrics and message of the song need to be clean and school appropriate. If there are any questions about music feel free to bring a copy of the lyrics by Mrs. Camey for approval while you are planning.
- You may send Mrs. Camey your music or make sure it is available on Spotify so she can find it.
- Costumes must also be school appropriate.
If your child is interested in being in the 2021 MWE talent show, then please print and fill out the following form or send it back to Mrs. Camey in an email (michelle.camey@springbranchisd.com). If you do not have access to a printer, please ask your classroom teacher for a copy.
It's time for Field Day!!
It's time for Field Day!!
The theme this year is 'tie-dye'. Thursday, May 20th students should come dressed comfortably in their most colorful tie-dye apparel and be prepared to spend most of the day outside possibly getting wet. Lunch will be picnic style outside so have this in mind when planning for the day. Follow this link for a sign up to donate water balloons, popcorn or volunteer:

Student Council Update-International Day
Dear Meadow Wood Community,
The MWE Student Council decided they want to do a “modified” International Day. If you have never heard of International Day, it is a day where you celebrate your family’s heritage, you also teach others about your culture. It will serve as one of our No Place For Hate Projects. International Day will be May 7, 2021. Below are some of the activities we have planned:
Everybody has an ancestry, what is yours? All classroom teachers gave students an ancestry form to take home. We would love to know what your ancestry is. If you have not already done so, please return your form before Monday, May 3. From these forms, we will be collecting the data and the SC representatives will develop fun visual displays representing the heritage of our families and staff.
During the week of May 3-7, Art, Music, HF and Library may incorporate learning about the art, music, dance and literature from other countries. We think it would be fun for the kids to learn about cultures from around the world. Not only are kids learning about other cultures, but they are learning to understand others' history.
Community Circle activities and Morning Announcements for the week will center around learning about other cultures, and the need for respect and inclusivity.
On International Day, May 7th, students and staff are encouraged to dress in clothing that is representative of their culture. We would love to see your special cultural style! Students will also have the opportunity to bring artifacts, pictures or something representative of their heritage. Also, No food items will be permitted.
We are looking forward to your participation.
The Meadow Wood Student Council
A Few Reminders:
Our doors open at 7:30 a.m. Students should not arrive any earlier, as they are unsupervised! Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 7:30 to 7:50. At 7:50, students are asked to head to their classrooms to begin their instructional day!
Please remember to send your student to school with a water bottle every day. Especially as the weather grows warmer, our Eagles need to stay hydrated. At this time, water fountains can only be used to refill bottles. In addition, we have 2 refillable water stations in the building, providing filtered water for our students.

From the President
Hello MWE Family,
I hope this Eagle Update finds you well. We are finishing up the school year and preparing for next year, so please don't forget the following:
1. Spirit Wear preorder is happening so be sure to spread the word and order your spirit wear in time!
2. School Supplies have also begun being ordered, and that will run through June, so get those orders in and save yourself the headache of "back to school shopping" once school starts.
3. May PTA meeting will be our in and out brunch on May 19th at 11 AM at Urban Kitchen--please login to MTK to rsvp for the event if you would like to enjoy the buffet that Urban Kitchen will be providing for us. If not, all are welcome to attend as we roll over this year into next year and induct our new Executive Board.
4. Receipts: please make sure to hand in any outstanding receipts to our treasurer, Kelly Williams, ASAP. We are working on closing out our books for the year in order to allow our Financial Reconciliation Committee to do its job and audit our spending for the year.
5. POWs: Anyone who had a position this year, please look at your POW and update it, adding any important notes from this year that will be valuable for next year. While I realize that this year made it impossible for many of you to do the job you volunteered for, those of you who have any changes or updates for the next volunteer, please go in and edit those! Any problems, please contact me.
Thanks as always for your support for the PTA this year. As this wild year winds down, don't forget to thank your teachers, administrators, and staff for guiding our students and parents through the many challenges that this year presented. It has not been easy, but our MWE family has shown up each and every day with smiles on their faces, prepared to give our kids the best experience they can. Let them know that it has not gone unnoticed!
Take Care,
Catie Winegar

A Message From the Superintendent
Dear Spring Branch ISD Families,
This week, we revealed our Elementary and Secondary 2021 Teacher of the Year winners! Huge congratulations go out to Kayla Gibson of Hunters Creek Elementary and Katie Wood-Sponsel of Spring Branch Academic Institute. Both Kayla and Katie exemplify the amazing educators that we have in Spring Branch ISD.
Learn more about Kayla and Katie here and watch the video below to see the special surprises!
Here are a few important reminders (and special recognitions!) for the week ahead:
Teacher Appreciation Week
Next week, May 3-7, marks Teacher Appreciation Week. In a year like no other, we appreciate each and every single one of our amazing educators more than ever. Despite the challenges we faced coming into this school year, our teachers worked tirelessly to adapt and turn those challenges into opportunities. They have been a constant for our students and families, and I am so grateful they are members of our SBISD family.
Please be sure to take a few moments next week to share some words of thanks and gratitude toward your child’s teacher(s). They truly live out our Core Values by putting Every Child at the heart of all they do!
Communications on upcoming testing
In the coming weeks, continue to monitor your email for communication from your campus principal regarding upcoming testing details and schedules. If you have any questions, please contact your campus.
