32nd Edition 5.13.16

Opening Thoughts...

Dear Hamon Family,

12.5 more days, 2 more Mondays, 50 more class periods...we are almost there! Thank you for another great week - so much going on in and around school and so much more to do! Thank you to everyone who successfully helped pull off 3 AP exams!

Please continue to keep students in class, engaged in learning experiences, and focused on finishing the school year strong! We all have a lot to do!

I hope you enjoy your appreciation week!

Staff Spotlight

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Anywhere in Spain – especially Barcelona.

What is your biggest fear?

My oldest daughter. She’s just on the cusp of puberty. Seriously, being a parent of a teen/tween daughter is terrifying to me!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life. What would it be?

Fish tacos with my husband’s most amazing homemade roasted tomatillo salsa.

List 1 pet peeve?

Wastefulness – Why do you need to take 4 tissues to blow your nose once?

What song would you sing at Karaoke night?

I’m back in baby’s arms by Patsy Cline...I love that song! But I would never actually do this as I wouldn’t want to torture anyone! :)

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

Julianne Moore – she looks nothing like me, but she’s an amazing actress.

Do you collect anything?

No, but my house always seems to collect dust. Does that count?

If you could take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be?

An endless supply of food (hunger and I are not friends!), a pair of running shoes, an endless supply of soap because even I cannot stand be around myself after my run, and my family....I know, I know, I know....that’s 4 things....sorry just couldn’t commit to 3.

If you had a warning label, what would your say?

Caution....contents under pressure may explode.

How many years have you been in education?

How many years have you been in LISD?

Student Greeters

Some of Ms. Lawson's students greeted our students and parents out front Friday morning with these great posters they made. They will be doing this again...

End of 6 Week Grading Period

Friday ends the 4P2 (4th 9 weeks Progress Report 2) grading period. Please make sure to have all grades completed by 4pm Monday, May 16. A student will REGAIN eligibility if passing all classes.

Seat Time

We have added another opportunity for students to receive seat time - this is possible during Block Lunch. A student can receive seat time credit if they serve this time with a teacher. As the teacher - you can record the time and contact Ms. Cagle. Time will be earned in 30 minute increments. If a student stays with you the entire time of BL they receive 1 hour, if they stay with a teacher for 30 minutes, they receive 30 minutes - there will be no time increments of any other length. We need your email as documentation.

Also, if a student has to serve lunch detention and tutoring -

LD trumps tutoring! They will have to take care of tutoring at another time.

Please help Mr. Owens with textbook collections... remind your students to bring their textbooks back as soon as possible!

Are you using one of these hashtags yet?

Help connect our school world with the community!

I have been trying to think of a way to reach as many of our students as possible with book titles, recommendations and reviews, and this seems like one good way to do it.

If you would share the #FarmersRead with your students and, I hope, use the hashtag yourself to Tweet out what you are reading, I think it could be effective.

#BHarmonNow is the Twitter hashtag that you use to connect the great things you are doing with your colleagues and students in and out of your classroom with our community. This hashtag will create a story of all the amazing things you (we) do on a daily basis! I hope you will use the new hashtag; if you do, everyone will be in the loop of all the fun and great things taking place around our campus!

Please do not forget to use the #HarmonPL if and when you are on Twitter and you view great information that relates to strong instructional practices, content, inspirational, etc...if you think others would like to see it - tag it using the # to share with the rest of our staff. Using #HarmonPL builds an electronic professional learning library for all of us!

Oh Romeo Romeo

From Ms. Hoving,

Our 4th period talked Mr. Boyle and Mrs. Heinz into reading the balcony scene. It was an Oscar-worthy performance. "Oh Romeo, Romeo!"

They look like naturals...Priceless!

Summer & Classrooms

We will be hosting Summer School (2nd floor), SOAR Academy (500, 800, gyms), and North Star Writing Camp (1400, 1500). Everyone will need to make sure they begin summer cleaning! We will have more details in what you will do with items that need to be inventoried! Just a heads up to cleaning up your rooms!
