Hello to our new and returning URCEO Virtual Families

Since the pandemic, you have been adjusting to distance learning knowing that it all could change depending on the current situation--and it changed frequently. Your experience with online learning was not reflective of "real" school and we get that!

Now you have a truly virtual student. We want to help you with this shift in thinking about school. At URCEO Virtual, SynchMeets (class time via Zoom) and Office Hours (joining a Zoom room to talk with your teacher) are normal. Attendance and participation is mandatory all five days of the week just like in traditional school but there is more flexibility with what that looks like from student to student.

We are here to support you as you adjust to this new learning format. Our Welcome Kit shares the most important information and expectations for URCEO Virtual families. We are glad to have you in the learning community! Please do not hesitate to reach out early on. Adapting to change can easily lead to frustration, but you are not alone in this journey. We are here to help you.

Thank you,
Mrs. Green & staff

ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS

1. Student attendance is taken daily for K-5.

  • On Mondays-Thursdays, any student not participating in their class SynchMeet is marked absent in the first five minutes. Attendance can later be adjusted based on other interactions such as a student completing a daily assignment or the student or parent communicating/interacting with the teacher or a classroom aide before 3 p.m. on the same day. However, the initial recording will prompt the autodialer system to call, text, or email depending upon parent settings on ParentVue.

  • On Fridays, attendance will be recorded at 9:15 a.m. Student interaction for attendance will be the completion of an assignment designated by the teacher. Any student that has not submitted the assignment will be marked absent. Attendance can be adjusted based on other interactions such as a student completing the assignment before 3 p.m. or the student or parent communicating/interacting with the teacher or a classroom aide before 3 p.m. on the same day. However, the initial recording will prompt the autodialer system to call, text, or email depending upon parent settings on ParentVue.

2. If your child is not able to interact with their teacher or complete assignments on a specific date, please call Mrs. Sitowski, URCEO's attendance support, at 541.830.6258. Speaking with Mrs. Sitowski before 9:15 a.m. will prevent the autodialer system call, text, or email (method of contact depends on parent's personal settings on ParentVue).

✏️ SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS ✏️

Like other elementary schools in the Eagle Point School District, we are an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school and we have a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Support) program where students have regular routines, clear expectations, and are recognized for their positive behaviors that lead to success. There are a few things that make the virtual setting distinct from the traditional schools and these expectations are outlined below.

⏰ ELEMENTARY SCHEDULE ⏰

All K-5 students begin their instructional day by checking in to Canvas by 8:15 a.m. to watch their Morning Video. This will go over the day's learning plan.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays, students have whole class instruction with their teacher for 30 minutes in a SynchMeet at the following times:

Kinders meet at 8:30 a.m.

Grade 1 meets at 9:30 a.m.

Grade 2 meets at 10:00 a.m.

Grade 3 meets at 11:00 a.m.

Grade 4 meets at 10:30 a.m.

Grade 5 meets at 11:30 a.m.

Between the morning meeting and scheduled SynchMeet start time, students may have small group interventions/enrichments via Zoom or assignments to begin working on (with asynchronous or synchronous support). Small group times will be scheduled throughout the day as needed for individuals. This will be in addition to teacher office hours.

For Students

We ask our students to access Canvas through Rapid Identity. This allows students to open the web version which has more features.

If your child does not know their EPSD9 username and password, please let us know by calling the office (541.830.6660) ASAP so we can assist.

For Parents & Guardians

We ask that you activate your Canvas Observer account if you have not already!

Your Observer Role will connect you to your child’s Canvas classes where you can view assignments, communicate with the teacher, and more!

👨‍👦‍👦 STUDENT & FAMILY RESOURCES 👩‍👦

The Learning Lounge

We have a dedicated learning space for URCEO elementary students available Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. While on campus, masks must be worn.

Supervision is provided by instructional assistants. Our teachers are on-site for specific days and times. Those details will be shared with registered families.

The Family Resource Library

We recommend our new URCEO families check out The Distance Learning Playbook for Parents. This book outlines supportive strategies for navigating virtual environments to ensure effective and impactful learning that aligns the needs and expectations of teachers, parents, and students alike.

Let us know if you’re interested and we'll get you a copy! Additionally, we have books on Digital Citizenship.
