FOUR TOPICS
Making Number Sense in the Early Years (Sessions 1A and 1B) with Betty Erickson
How do we define Number Sense for young children? What are some child-friendly activities to build number sense and other math concepts? Click here to see full description and outcomes.
Indicators of Kindergarten Readiness For Math ( Sessions 2A and 2B ) with Cherrie Fulton
Find out how you can see "ages and stages" of math development in young children, and how to design math activities that are appropriate at each child's stage of development.
Early Math Words: See It! Say It! Do It! (Sessions 3A and 3B) with Bill Atwood
What are the key math words that children need to understand math concepts. What are effective ways to help children learn and apply those words?
Finding Math in Favorite Books ( Sessions 4A and 4B ) with Heather Gray and Enthusiastic Readers
Begin with early childhood educators reading favorite books that feature math through storytelling. Learn how to engage children in the fun of "reading for math". Find out what books are great for learning math!
Go the next step for children who have language based communication disorders. A speech pathologist who is an augmentative communication specialist shows how to adapt favorite books to help children make math connections. These strategies can help all children, not just those with communication disorders, enjoy the fun of reading for math.
