What's Been Roaring at the Library!

2014-2015 At A Glance

We had an amazing year here in the media center! Our more than 500 students and 100 staff members checked out over 28,000 28,000 materials from the library! Furthermore, through media center funds, donations, and the annual Scholasstic Book Fair, we obtained 615 new books! Check out some more stats below:

  • The most popular section of the library was the Fiction section, including our Popular Series section. Fiction comprised 33.5% of our total circulation.
  • 31.4% of circulation came from our Nonfiction section. The most popular Nonfiction section was the 500's where Science and Math books on topics such as Weather, Dinosaurs, Habitats, and Animals reside.
  • 16.5% of circulated books were picture books in the Everybody section.
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Hard Luck by Jeff Kinney was our most popular book followed by Dork Diaries - Tales from a Note-So-Fabulous Life by Rachel Renee Russell. The third most popular book was a graphic novel - Bone: The Great Cow Race by Jeff Smith.

Reading, Research, and More!

In addition to maintaining the library, Ms. Minton taught more than 420 classes to students in Pre-K through 5th grade on lessons related to information literacy, research, Digital Citizenship, pleasurable reading, and classroom content. Ms. Minton and Mrs. Webster held bi-weekly Tech Tuesday sessions to instruct staff on new technologies. Ms. Minton and Mrs. Webster also attended the annual NCTIES technology conference held in Raleigh. Lastly, in addition to the highlighted events above, the library arranged various promotional events, including a Bookmark Contest, Poem in a Pocket Day, Black History Month guest readers, Got Caught Reading month, a Poetry Picnic, Scholastic Book Fair, and a presentation from the Chapel Hill Public Library.
