Hello Dragons!
I am so excited to announce that RLA is making plans to start in-person classes in April! It has been such a long wait and we are so excited to start seeing all of you in person. While we are still in the process of finalizing our plans, we want to share some information with you about what in person classes will probably look like. These plans may change as we get more information.
https://tinyurl.com/RLAHybridSurvey
How many days a week will I be able to come to school?
Students will be able to come to school two days a week. You will either be assigned to a Tuesday/Wednesday group or a Thursday/Friday group. We are in the process of making those groups now and will let you know as soon as we can.
Does that mean I only have school two days a week?
Nope. In means you only have classes in person two days a week. You will still be doing classwork on the computer on the other days.
Do I need to wear a mask at school? Do we need to stay six feet apart?
It is still very important to take care not to spread Covid-19 at school or in our community. That means that some things about school are going to be different than they were before. Everyone at RLA will be required to wear a mask while they are at school. If you don’t have one, we will give one to you. When you are in the building, it will be important to stay at least 6 feet away from your classmates and teachers. We are also going to be eating breakfast and lunch in the classrooms instead of the commons and we will be taking breaks in class instead of between classes.
This part is going to be tough. We have been away from each other for a long time and it’s going to be hard not to give each other high fives. But wearing masks, staying 6 feet apart and staying home when we feel sick is how we take care of each other through the pandemic. And don’t worry, we are thinking up plenty of ways for all of us to re-connect and have fun while being safe.
When do we start?
Right now, we are planning to have students start in-person classes on Tuesday, April 6th.
What will my schedule be like?
On the days that you are on-campus for classes you will arrive at 9:50 AM and be dismissed at 3:30 PM. Your class schedule we be the same as it has been for distance learning: 1st, 2nd and 3rd on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Advisory/Assembly, 4th and 5th on Wednesdays and Fridays. The only difference is that during office hours you will be assigned to a study hall where you can get help with your assignments on schoology.
Will there still be breakfast and lunch? Can I ride the school bus? Will there still be childcare?
Yes, yes, and yes.
¡Hola Dragones!
https://tinyurl.com/RLAHybridSurvey

Eat a decent breakfast!

The one good habit I have started during this year is having a smoothie almost every morning. I used to wait too long to eat and just drink waaaay to much coffee. I still drink too much coffee but now I alternate with a giant smoothie. The best part about a smoothie is all you need is a blender and a few simple ingredients: greens (yes! spinach/kale/celery/cucumber), frozen berries (anything will work!), yogurt (lots of protein!), a banana, and water or ice.
Try pineapple and orange or orange juice in your smoothie for a tropical fancy drink. There are so many ways to make a good smoothie. Just toss in what you have and blend!!
Share your favorite smoothie ideas with me! Here are some more ideas: Don't worry if you don't have all the ingredient. Toss in what you have on hand!

I know it has been a while, but with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine being sent out to clinics, it is time for a new edition of The Science Behind COVID!
Do you hate this pandemic? Are you interested in going back to "normal"? Do you just want to be able to hug and hold a loved one without the fear of getting sick or making them sick? Well I have good news! It looks like we may be able to do those things by late May! How? Vaccines! More and more vaccines are becoming available and that means more and more people can take them. Even for those of you who are under 18, clinical trials are being conducted to see if the vaccine is safe for you to take! This is all good news....IF everyone takes the vaccine.
Vaccines only work if there is enough people taking them and not everyone one can take them! I already did a post about vaccines and vaccine myths, but it is worth a second look. Today's video from It's Okay to be Smart looks into vaccines, how they work, and most importantly, why you and your loved ones should get one. The sooner we get to herd immunity, the sooner we can put this pandemic behind us
One last thing before I go. The CDC says that if two people are fully vaccinated, they can hang out in the same room WITHOUT social distancing or masks! (you still need to do that in public though).

8 Lifestyle Choices That Are Accidentally Sabotaging Your Job Search
Searching for a job can feel like another full-time job and it takes resilience, commitment, and loads of self-compassion. Your lifestyle choices may be helping or cramping your job search. Here are 9 lifestyle choices that might be sabotaging your search:
1. Skipping your workout
- Stop skipping your workout. Movement is incredibly powerful for your body, your heart, and your mind to move forward powerfully. There are some pretty powerful neurological reasons to make time for a workout some of which include: raising your endorphins (your happy vibes!), increasing your cognitive function, and managing your stress and anxiety better.
2. You aren’t making time for fun
- We’ve all known the person who is stressed out all the time. Their anxiety is readable in their text messages, emails, and interactions. When you are having fun in your life, other people can tell, and they want to be around you. Additionally, when you engage in a hobby, you are building new neurology that allows you to make new and different connections. Make fun a priority this week and see what solutions come up.
3. You spend a lot of time complaining
- I’m not saying you can’t vent or complain at all. There’s a healthy release that comes with a good vent and strong yell. Yet, if you find yourself complaining a lot, you’re strengthening the negative feedback loops in your head. Call a friend. Set a timer. Vent for 10 minutes and then ask yourself, “What is one action I can take to move towards a solution?”
4. You trash talk to yourself about not doing enough in your search
- Our Western culture frequently uses shame and guilt as motivators. Except research shows that shame and guilt don’t actually work as well as self-empathy and self-compassion. The next time the voice in your head ridicules you or yells at you for not doing enough, put your pen to paper and practice rewriting that voice as your friend might speak to you. Kindly.
5. You’re only applying online because you’re an introvert
- While the internet is a wonderful tool, life is still so deeply about relationship. Get to know people. Reach out and ask for informational interviews. Activate your network and let your community know that you’re looking for a new role.
6. Your emails and communication are unclear about what you’re looking for
- Do you want an informational interview? Are you looking for a connection to someone on the inside? Make an ask and be direct about what you are seeking or needing. Most people want to help you, but if they don’t know what you’re looking for then they can’t help.
7. You get up in a flurry and rush to get yourself out the door in the morning
- While your job searching, you want to continue to build in time to reflect. Making even just 10 minutes in the morning to think through your day can help you stay focused on what truly needs to get done. Also, spending just a minute or two to reflect on what’s working and what’s not working is going to inform the direction you’re headed. As you go through your job search, you’ll be learning a lot about what you like, and you don’t want to miss harvesting the truth of what you’re craving AND what you really don’t want to do for work.
8. You look at job applications and think “I don’t meet all the criteria” and then you don’t apply
- Stop that. Research shows that women apply for jobs when they meet 100% of the criteria and men apply as long as they meet 60%. Don’t sell yourself short. Apply anyway and sell yourself in the interview.
