What Happened Before The Taj Mahal Was Built
The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan. He built the Taj Mahal for his third, and most favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan named the Taj Mahal after Mumtaz. She had died during child birth of their 14th child.
The Construction Of The Taj Mahal
The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632.The workers used elephants to Carrie things. It took 2,000 elephants and 20,000 workers. In 1648 the Taj Mahal was complete. Shah Jahan had the workers hand or just their fingers cut off so there would not be another Taj Mahal as special as that one.

Shah Jahan had his wife burred at the center of the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum. If you don't know what a mausoleum is i'll tell you. A mausoleum is burial. Mumtaz Mahal was burred at a lower level because she was so special.
