West Point El. Parent Update
Week of September 4, 2023
Dear West Point Families,
We hope you are enjoying the Labor Day weekend! Here are three important things to know for the coming week:
- Labor Day: There is no school this Monday, September 4 for the Labor Day holiday.
- Safe Schools Electronic Signatures: For 1st-6th grade parents, be sure to review the information on your myDSD account and sign the electronic document acknowledging you have received this information. For kindergarten parents, please review the presentation with your student. Both you and your student need to log into myDSD to acknowledge receipt of this information. Our Safe Schools presentations can be found on our website at the following link: https://westpointel.davis.k12.ut.us/parents-students/student-handbook.
- We are updating our list of substitutes for the classroom, specialty prep classes, recess/office, and custodial help. Please email Becky Merrick, our office manager, if you are interested in being on our substitute list. bmerrick@dsdmail.net
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Michelle Yoho

School Fundraiser
The money from this fundraiser will be used to:
- purchase student rewards, incentives, classroom reward parties, brag tags, and enrichment opportunities as part of our positive behavior plan
- support and show appreciation for our teachers
- provide additional resources for our school (i.e., playground supplies, water coolers in the portables)
Thank you for your support!
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
- Depending on the situation, we will evacuate 1) to the field behind the school or 2) to the LDS Church at 300 N 3500 W in West Point.
- Students will wait in line with their teachers.
- The school has a copy of your emergency contacts, which are the people who have permission to pick up your student in an emergency. (Any updates to the emergency contact list need to be made in writing. You can stop by the office or ask to have the form sent home which you would then update, sign, and return.)
- Parents/guardians/emergency contacts will check out students at the front of the lines at a centralized command center. They will fill out a reunification form and show ID. (A copy of this form has been included below for your reference.)
- Once permission and ID have been verified, a runner will get your student and bring your student to you.
- Please remember that an orderly evacuation is the best way to insure everyone's safety in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

6th Grade Orchestra
On Wednesday your student participated in an orchestra assembly. We talked about the different instrument's students can learn if they choose to participate in the 6th grade orchestra class.
This is a free program, all you have to do is bring a violin, viola, cello, or bass—we do have 2 cellos and one bass to rent per elementary but that is not a lot.
Schedule
We meet during the following times:
Tuesday 7:50-8:35
Thursday 8:50-9:35
Registration
Below is a link to a flyer with more information along with a QR code where you can register your student for orchestra. The deadline for registration is the week of September 11—or the first day of class that week.
