2nd Grade "My Communities" Project
Our second graders have been working hard on our "My Communities" social studies unit. We started out learning the differences between rural, urban, and suburban communities and thought about where we would like to live. Then we brainstormed our responsibilities for ourselves, our family, our school and our city. Next, we researched over 20 community helper jobs. We talked about why each job was important to the community, what tools are needed for the job, and what they wear to the job. For each community helper we practiced our close and critical reading skills by reading a passage, highlighting key points, and then answering comprehension questions. This was done in whole group, with partners, and independently. Finally, each student was asked to think of a job they would want when they grow up. Most students chose a job within our notes, others researched on their own. They even drew themselves on the job! We are so proud of their hard work and creativity! All posters are hanging in our hallway at school!
4th Grade learns about Martin Luther King Jr
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and to launch our research writing unit, fourth grade students have been working on learning about the life and legacy of MLK jr. Students were given QR codes to help guide their research using kid friendly sites. We have worked through multiple activities and dug deep to not only explore his life but understand his passion. The final step to our project was to explore a quote that inspired us and make a pic collage to show and explain its importance.
Kindness
Our January PBIS goal was focused on being respectful. For the month of February, our PBIS goals are focused on being kind.
Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Let's practice being kind to everyone this month!

Attendance Reminders
The snow is here!
The snow has arrived, which is great fun for the kids at recess! This means students will need proper snow gear to be permitted to play in the snow at recess. Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather and with boots and snow pants each day.
In addition, please take time to label each and every item to help keep our lost and found to a minimum. All items that have a name on them will be returned the same day they are lost.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Snow Fun at Recess!
