WEEK ENDING IN 9/24/2021
Dear OSES Family Members,
Orlando Science Elementary had another STEMtastic week. Please take a minute to see all the photos in the newsletter, which showcase a few classroom activities. We hope each student can share with you some of their favorites lessons this week.
If your student is interested in a competition team, please be sure to let us know. Whether its Science Olympiad, Math Competition, or robotics, we want to make sure every student can get involved with school outside the classroom.
OSES will have several opportunities soon for parents to attend workshops or sessions to learn about student data, mental health, FSA tips, Saturday Studies, and more. All workshops or sessions will be conducted via Zoom.
Lastly, OSES will be recognized in Washington, D.C. on Friday, October 22nd, for being a National School of Character. The event will take place during the Character.org Forum. Unfortunately, the public does not have access to the event, however the school be sharing our video that was submitted to showcase our journey.

SUM DOG MATH CONTEST
Sumdog's free math contests are a fun way to motivate your students, as they get to compete against other classes, locally or nationally.
Each contest runs from 8am local time on a Friday to 8pm the following Thursday - but you can play at any time during this period.
Scores are based on accuracy, and questions tailored to each student's level - so everyone has a fair chance.
There are virtual rewards for taking part and certificates and prizes for the winners.
All 29 games will be open during the competition. Students are encouraged to log in before next Thursday to complete the diagnostic. They earn coins from that too, so it is helpful in many ways. On Friday of next week, students will compete against other students in Orange County. The competition will last until the 30th. We are so excited for all of the games to be open! We cannot wait to see our students’ names on the leaderboard.
FALL PHYSICAL DESIGN CONTEST
November 1st through December 15th, 2021 – Sponsored by Gamewright, Ravensburger, and Calliope Games
Physical games, whether card, dice, or board, present great opportunities to connect, compete, and learn from others. In the Fall Physical Game Design Competition, students will engage in a hands-on STEM experience with their friends and classmates. The Competition will encourage learning, computational thinking, and fellowship, as well as many other 21st-century skills. This virtual experience will enable K-12 students to learn more about game development and practice critical thinking while expanding their portfolios.
All submissions are due by 11:59 pm PST on December 15th, 2021. More information coming soon!
