Dear Middlebrook Families,
The staff at Middlebrook School are excited for this new school year filled with opportunities to learn and engage!
Getting into the habit of daily attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
● reduce stress
● make it easier to connect with friends and teachers
● support learning
We are working to make our school environment a place where everyone can be safe, healthy and learning. We will do our best to listen and partner with you so that our children have a successful year. Please make every effort to send your child into school everyday and on time.
When to keep your child home:
1. If your child has a fever of 100 Fahrenheit or higher.
2. If your child is vomiting or has diarrhea.
3. If your child has a severe cough.
4. If your child has body aches and chills.
5. If your child tests positive for COVID.
To report your child's absence, contact the school office prior to 9:00 a.m. by:
Telephoning the school secretary or school nurse and leaving a message (203-452-4112); or
Emailing the school secretary or school nurse (scalisef@trumbullps.org or hoggattj@trumbullps.org ).
For absences one (1) through nine (9) in a school year, a student’s absences from school are considered excused when the student’s parent/guardian approves such absence and submits appropriate documentation, based on the Trumbull Public Schools attendance policy;
https://www.trumbullps.org/Attachments/pac/policies/5000/5113_1_Attendance_Grades_K8.pdf
For the tenth (10th) absence and all absences thereafter in a school year, a student’s absences from school are considered excused for the following reasons only: student illness if verified by an appropriately licensed medical professional; student’s observance of a religious holiday; death in the student’s family or other emergency beyond the control of the student’s family; mandated court appearance if supported by appropriate additional documentation; the lack of transportation that is normally provided by a district other than the one the student attends; or extraordinary educational opportunities pre-approved by District administrators in accordance with Connecticut State Department of Education guidelines.
Please see the attachment below from Attendance Works to learn more about how to build habits for Good Attendance!
Have a great weekend!
Warm Regards,
Debbie Ponte, Principal

CHET Dream Big
The CHET Dream Big! Competition will launch on September 7! This competition is brought to you by the Connecticut State Treasurer’s Office as Trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET). Dream Big! is open to all Connecticut residents in grades K-12.
We need your help to make sure students and their families know about this opportunity to win contributions to their CHET 529 college savings plans! This year, the Dream Big! Competition prizes have increased in value. We will be awarding more than $450,000 in CHET 529 College Savings Plan – Direct Plan (“CHET 529 Direct Plan”) account contributions to students in grades K-12 and technology prizes to schools. For the prize-winning students, we will be awarding:
3 $25,000 prizes
15 $7500.00 prizes
240 $500 prizes
To enter, students are asked to answer, in the form of a drawing, short essay or video, a question focusing on their dreams for the future (depending on their Grade Level Group, as defined in the Competition Official Rules). Submissions must be uploaded by 11:59 p.m. on October 21. For program details, rules and regulations, and to enter, visit:
www.ChetDreamBig.com And this year, entering is easier than ever!
Your school could win a prize too! Each school in Connecticut that is represented by at least one student entry will be eligible for a random drawing for a technology prize worth $7,500. A total of 20 schools will win a technology prize – and your school could be one of them! Please see the 2022 Competition Official Rules for more information on prize structure and awards.
While students can enter online, we are also sending you paper applications and promotional materials in the mail. We encourage you to share this information with your teachers, students and their families and consider making Dream Big! an activity in your classrooms as you begin your school year. Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on October 21. There is no cost to enter. If you have any questions, please email dreambiginfo@dja.com.
Thank you for your support!
