Field Trip Information
Third Grade is excited about our upcoming field trip to the Plano Outdoor Learning Center.
The students in Ledsome, Russell, & Kemendo homerooms will go to the Outdoor Learning Center on Monday, December 3rd. Students in Rosen and Hansen homerooms will visit the Outdoor Learning Center on Tuesday, December 4th. We will leave Barksdale each day at 10:00 AM and return to campus at 2:15 PM. This is an all day field trip.
Each class will be allowed to bring 2 parent chaperones. The parent chaperones must have cleared the criminal history background check. Please email your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, November 26th if you would like to be considered to be a chaperone. If we have more parents interested in chaperoning, we will use a lottery system to determine who the chaperones will be.
Chaperones will be able to ride the bus with us. Parent chaperones will need to have a Raptor badge and a completed bus permission form (will be issued once chaperones are determined by homeroom teachers).
Students will need to wear long pants, socks, and closed-toe shoes to prevent contact with poison ivy. Half of the field trip time will be spent outdoors in a forest on walking trails. Wear comfortable, old shoes that you don't mind getting dirty or muddy. No flip flops, sandals, or high heel shoes!
Wear a hat and/or sunscreen if necessary.
Bring a sack lunch and a drink! A refillable water bottle is recommended when it's hot/humid.
If cold and windy, bring a warm coat, gloves, and a hat.
If rainy, bring a hooded raincoat or poncho since we do go outside during light rain or drizzle.
Insect repellent may only be applied at home before coming to school.
Science- Matter Matters!
As we are wrapping up our final week of studying Matter, we wanted to share some pictures of investigations we have been doing in class.
Measuring the mass and volume of pumpkins
Separately mixtures with a variety of tools
Designing boats to test sink or float
Coming Soon-Caine's Arcade!
We need your help! We need donations of cardboard boxes for an upcoming project. The students will use the cardboard to create arcade games with our upcoming science unit. Please start saving boxes, we will need quite a bit, but do not send in until the week of 12/17. Thank you! To learn more about Caine's Arcade, view the video clips below.
Cafeteria Visitors-Temporary Change
While our school cafeteria is under construction, our space is very limited during lunch time. We need to make sure all of our students have a place to sit and enjoy their lunch. Our limited space means we cannot accommodate parents inside the cafeteria during cold or rainy days. When the weather is nice, you are more than welcome to eat with your child outside once this semester on the patio through the back door of the cafeteria.
We are looking forward to our cafeteria (and the cafeteria rules) returning to normal during the second semester. Once we get word that the construction is completed, we will let you know, and you are more than welcome to eat with us inside the cafeteria or on the patio.
