Origins


  • Siyyid 'Ali Mohammad ("the Bab" or "Hidden Imam"), a shiite Muslim arrested and executed for claiming to have special prophetic insight into the Qur'an
  • the Bab's disciple, Mirza Hoseyn Ali Nury (the Baha'u'llah) spread the Bab's teachings
  • Baha'i formed in 1863 CE - Iran (Persia) [2]

Burial


  • It is forbidden to carry the body for more than an hour from the place of death to burial site.
  • The body is to be wrapped in cotton or silk
  • If the person is 15 years old (Age of maturity) or older, a ring placed on their finger that has an inscription that states "I came forth from God, and return unto him detached from all save him, holding fast to his name, the Merciful, the Compassionate."
  • The coffin should be made of either crystal, stone, or hard firewood.
