Principal's Pulse

Can you believe it is already the end of September? Time is flying by!

Mrs. Odom, our support staff and I are meeting with the students of each grade level either this week (K-2) or next week (3-4) for the first 30 minutes of the day in the cafeteria and gym while the teachers are engaged in extended planning sessions for them. We have used this time with the students to discuss healthy choices and strategies for protecting ourselves from germs at school, and we are continuing to practice our cafeteria procedures. The students also experienced an extra treat to enjoy some extra exercise, music and dance with Coach Hernandez.

Thank you to all of the parents who are collecting items for the Fall Festival event, games, prizes, food or silent auction baskets. The work you are doing now will help to provide for your students throughout the year. Grade levels will spend Fall Festival money on items such as supplies for class experiments, field trip money in addition to what PTA funds, leveled readers for classrooms, manipulatives for math and science, tech devices for students, etc. We value your time, your energy and your donations as we work to enhance the learning experience of our students through this district-wide fundraiser. Mark October 3rd on your calendar from 3:00 - 7:00 to enjoy the fun. There will be a band playing from 7:00 - 9:00 for extended entertainment.

Ask your child about the Principals' 100. We had an assembly today to launch this positive behavior reward system. Please click the link below for more details.

PTA Boosterthon - This year’s main fundraiser is the VAES Students Matter Fun Run! It’ll be a 9-day program where we kick off with a Pep Rally on October 19, 2015. Families will have time to get pledges for every lap your student runs, and then we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on October 28, 2015. With our big goals to raise funds for field trips, student programs and technology for classrooms if we exceed our goal, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun. Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Big World Recess! It’s a global fitness theme all about playing with character. Donations will go toward field trips and student programs and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
